Voodoo Masquerade Halloween Party Theme

Why not do the voodoo that you do so well this Halloween? Try a Mardi Gras Halloween party this year. So what if Mardi Gras is usually in February or March! I won't tell if you won't! It's a time for reveling, being crazy and doing it all behind a mask.

If you choose a voodoo theme, write your invitation as a spell with the pertinent details on parchment paper, and send it off to your guests. Send along a voodoo doll with the invite, if you are brave enough to do it.

Halloween masquerade Decorations
The decorations for your Halloween masquerade should be darkly elegant - choose shades of purple and green to fit your color scheme. It's Halloween, so throw in some spooky elements too!

• Set up a skeleton voodoo party outside.  Arrange plastic skeletons and add party beads, masks, and capes. Add blacklighting for an eerie glow!
• Hang a Halloween masquerade ball banner over your entrance.  Let guests know they've arrive to the classiest voodoo party in town!
• As your friends arrive, have a jester cutout of the host there to "greet" them. Have a bowl nearby filled with Halloween treats!
• Anyone who didn't come with a mask should be given one ... it will add the the mystery!

Halloween Masquerade Decorations 

• At your entrance, set up a fog machine to fill the room. Add blacklights to give the fog a purple glow.
• Add candelabras everywhere! The more candles the better - it will give your party an eerie feel.
• Scatter gold coins and party beads on top of the tables to make your presentation just right.
• Of course, pile skulls in bowls and hang them from the ceiling! Perch black crows on shelves and in corners.  
• Set up a voodoo vignette! Make a bubbling cauldron by putting a small fog machine in a plastic black cauldron.  Add a blacklight to make it glow. On a table or shelf, arrange jars and vials of "witch's ingredients" for voodoo spells.  Fill the jars with food coloring and water and add props - plastic frogs, snakes, etc.

• Spanish moss piled around the bases of raised serving platters will give off a Mardi Gras voodoo vibe. 
• For centerpieces, use Mardi Gras hats and masks on half the tables and crystal balls on the rest of them.
• At the fabric store, buy purple, black, and green fabrics--the fancier the better. (Patterned sheers work great) Drape them on your buffets, and over dining tables.
• Around the tables scatter beads or more confetti. Simple, inexpensive and fun.

Halloween masquerade ball Party Menu
You can go Louisiana/Cajun with your menu since Mardi Gras is a New Orleans tradition. Serve food on purple and green paper goods to make set up easy. Illuminate your dining area with candles! 

1 ounce fresh-squeezed lemon or lime juice
4 ounces dark rum
4 ounces passion fruit syrup
Lime slice
1 Maraschino Cherry
Crushed ice

In a cocktail shaker, add lemon juice, rum, passion fruit syrup, and crushed ice; shake vigorously for 1 - 2 minutes. Strain into a hurricane cocktail glass. Garnish with lime slice and a maraschino cherry. Serve with a long straw.

masquerade Music and Activities
Keep your party going well into the night!  Plan a few hair-raising voodoo activities that will keep your friends entertained:

• Since this is a masquerade ball, there should be dancing!  Choose everyone's favorite Halloween songs, or hire a dj for a larger party.  Get everyone on the dance floor by handing out glow jewelry and led accessories.

• Pull out the old Ouija board, or better yet, hire a professional palm reader or fortune teller to meet with your guests. Set up an area for them - decorate with tombstones and spider webs for a graveyard scene!
