Jenn asked:
Occasion: Bridal Shower
I need ideas for games and prizes.
The Game Girl says:
Try one of these:
What a challenge! But I think I have the answer: Give every guest a
sheet of paper and pencil. They must circulate among all the guests and
collect 3 things they have in common with each one. The first player to
complete her card by collecting 3 common things from each player wins a
prize!
How about a round of "Advice for the Bride and Groom." Have each person
introduce him or herself, and offer one piece of advice for the
impending couple, such as "Never go to bed mad," "Don't leave the toilet
lid up," or "Never agree with her when she says she's fat." Some of
these should be quite funny! And some might even prove to be valuable!
Here's a quick and easy one for a bridal shower. Instead of plain old
name tags with just names, have the guests write down where they first
met their current lovers/spouses. That should get them talking. A
take-off on this - where they went for the first date, where they got
the first kiss, or where they were when "he" proposed.
Tamara asked:
Occasion: Ice Breaker for Engagement Party
I need an ice-breaker for an engagement party.
The Game Girl says:
Scan the games here and see if something will work,
then go over to the Adult Games section and you'll
find a few more icebreakers.
L. Zealand asked:
Occasion: Wedding Shower
Games that are inexpensive, but fun for a wide age
range of people.
The Game Girl says:
I hope the ones below will be helpful. If not, you
might pick up a copy of GAMES PEOPLE PLAY for more
ideas that range in age from young kids to older
people.
Zaynab Humayun asked:
Occasion: Bridal Shower
I'm throwing a bridal shower surprise party for my
best friend and I'm inviting friends we grew up with.
The problem is that these people are not very sociable,
and it takes a lot to get conversation going. I need
some help in selecting games that are fun, get the
adrenaline pumping, and have the possibility of
winning prizes.

Debbie Daugherty asked:
Occasion: Wedding Rehearsal
Do you have a suggestion for a simple and quick game
we could play to get acquainted before our dinner
is served. Thanks a lot. I will be waiting for your
reply.

Christine asked:
Occasion: Post-Honeymoon Celebration
My husband's mother wants to have a casual "post- honeymoon" party so that our
West Coast friends can have a chance to celebrate with us, since the wedding was on the
East Coast. We plan to show a video of the wedding day. Any other games that would be
appropriate?
The Game Girl says:
The Wedding Video is a perfect start for your party. Have everyone watch the video,
then when it's over, hand out paper and pencil - it's time for a quiz! Ask questions based
on what happened in the video - some serious, some funny - and see what kinds of answers
you get. Questions like: Which one was the bride and which one was the groom? Who smashed
the cake in the face first? What kind of flowers did the bridesmaids carry? What do you
think that dress cost? Award a piece of wedding cake to the winner.

Tommy asked:

I'm trying to come up with some games that the DJ can use to keep the party going. The DJ
is a friend not a professional, so we could use some suggestions.
The Game Girl says:
How about "Change the Music - Change the Partner!" Have the DJ ready with a
stack of CDs to play - all different types of dancing music. Have him play a minute or so
of a song, then suddenly change the music! When the music changes, so do the partners -
and the dance style! That should keep them all hopping!
Debbie asked:
Occasion: Bridal Shower
I am having a bridal shower in March and would like any ideas you have for games to play.
We don't want to spend an enormous amount of money.
The Game Girl says:
Ask your guests to bring the kitchen items wrapped in colorful foil. Pass the gifts
around at game time and have everyone write down what they think the gift is just by
feeling it! Then have the bride-to-be open the gift to see who's right! Of course, she
gets to keep all the kitchen gifts!
Latrell Myers asked:
Occasion: Bridal Shower
Any ideas for games at a bridal shower where there will be females and males?
The Game Girl says:
Play the home version of "The Newlywed Game!" Call the groom and ask some
personal questions, such as "What's your favorite dessert?" "Where did you
go on your first date with your fiancée?" "What's your worst habit?"
"What do you sleep in?" Call the bride and ask the same questions. Ask each of
them not to say anything about the game to the other one. Write each question on the front
side of an index card and both answers on the back. Seat the bride and groom at the front
of the room, with the party guests forming a circle. Pass out the questions to the party
guests. Let them take turns asking the bride and groom questions they must answer about
one another. If the bride gets more right answers than the groom, the women at the party
win a prize. If the groom gets more right answers, the men win a prize!
Elaine Diamond asked:
Occasion: Beach Wedding
Any ideas for the 20 kids at the reception. Buffet for adults in hall and the kids with
babysitters to give the parents a chance to eat. Ideas for food and games to keep the kids
occupied while the formalities take place which are boring for the kids. The kids area
will be outside and would try to keep them as clean as possible. Any suggestions? Age
range 4 - 14 years old. I thought maybe plastic leis etc.
The Game Girl says:
You can use games (see our party library for tons of books on games), hire a DJ for
kids only to keep them busy with dance games and other competitions (which DJs do very
well)...or bring in a magician/balloon animal twister and entertainers like that to keep
them occupied.
