Valerie asked:
Occasion: general fall party
I am looking for a general Fall theme. A little something more than a wine
tasting party. Maybe a martinis and more kind of thing--everyone brings their
favorite wine or vodka or special martini recipe. A little more than the
average young business persons gathering. Suggestions? I believe this will be
on a pseudo-limited budget.
The Party Girl's advice is:
Look at party411.com/themes at the
cocktail reception and use some of that. Make up a trivia sheet on the
beverages with really unusual facts and make it a "True or False"
quiz.
Misty asked:
Occasion: costume
My name is Misty Pettit. On the 6th of Nov. my friend Cassi is having a costume
party. I don't know what to dress up as. It can't be something corny either. I
am 15 and my boyfriend will be there. He won't tell me what he is going as! We
have only been going out for like a month, so I have to make a good
impression. I want to look Good, if you know what I mean, but not to
"slutty". So I don't know what to be. If you have any ideas please
help!!!
The Party Girl's advice is:
You can go "cute" as a
Raggedy Ann or you can go "pretty" as a flapper or you can go
"silly" as an animal (they can be sexy too like a cat).
Jenni asked:
Occasion: moral booster brunch for employees
What kind of theme can I do to hype up morale? Employees have been working
extra hours and need some fun and appreciation.
The Party Girl's advice is:
Since you all work with seniors all the
time, why not have a "kiddie" party with all the games and fun of a
5 year old. Pin the tail, duck, duck, goose, I spy, etc. I know you are doing
brunch but have cake and ice cream with it. You could use Sesame Street,
Barney, any of those things and get paper goods to match.
C asked:
Occasion: Halloween scavenger hunt
I desperately need a scavenger hunt list by Tuesday evening if possible
to throw a great hunt. Please send one if you can. Thanks a Halloween
scream of a bunch!! "C"
The Party Girl's advice is:
Look at party411.com/themes under
Halloween for some ideas. You can add such things as "eye of knute"
(decorated hard boiled egg), bats wings (made from licorice), etc. Miniature
broom, witches hat, something from the Wizard of Oz, green makeup, fright
wigs, album or tape of scary sounds, masks of children's characters.
Lesley asked:
Occasion: Halloween party
We will be sending the older children (preteen and up) out on a door to door
scavenger hunt instead of trick or treating. We are in need of original items
to put on our list. Any help you can provide would be appreciated.
The Party Girl's advice is:
Pick a theme-type of list. Maybe music,
movie stars, etc. Ask for R & R button, something Beetles, Jerry Garcia
and the Dead, something Rap, funky type button, spool of thread in orange,
etc. Be sure to remember where the stuff came from so that it can be returned.
catherine asked:
Occasion: millennium or holiday party for classroom of 25
third graders
I need some game, craft and food ideas for a third grade class. I have only a
fridge and microwave to use, the craft supplies should be items available in
an elementary school and we have only 1 hour and 15 minutes. Expense must be
minimal, as I can ask for donations of things from parents, but no money.
Help!!!
The Party Girl's advice is:
Food idea - Make hamburger cookies. Get
Nilla wafers, small chocolate covered wafers and can of vanilla frosting,
divided in two 1/2 colored red and 1/2 colored yellow. Put them together in
this order, nilla, red frosting, choc. wafer, yellow frosting, nilla.
Cheeseburger cookie. To make fries, use sugar cookie doe, cut in little pieces
and baked off. Kids can do this themselves and it's fun. Get large white
t-shirts from the discount store and stuff them with newspaper and let the
kids decorate them with their thoughts about the millennium. Tell them to think
about it ahead of time. Use permanent markers and glitter. Have them bring in
their predications for the millennium and a picture of that prediction.
kelly asked:
Occasion: Office exchanging names for Christmas gifts.
We have a small office of 8 people. We need to exchange names (Pollyanna) for
Christmas gifts. Do you have a clever way to do this other than throwing lists
in a hat and drawing. Boring. Any other ideas?
The Party Girl's advice is:
Assign each person a fictional
character and pass out clues to guess the identity. Once they have it, keep it
a secret.
Stephanie asked:
Occasion: Catering a Luncheon
I am planning to cater a small luncheon for 12 people. I would like the theme to
be Fallish. I am making sandwiches, desert and a salad. Could you please give
me some ideas on what to serve and how to decorate the table. I would like to
keep my cost at around $60 but the price I am charging is about
$12/head. I'd appreciate any help ASAP. Thank you so much.
The Party Girl's advice is:
Why not do a soup in pumpkins. It could
be hot or cold and put in the center of the table with a ladle. Great first
course and decorate with fall leaves all around. I would have a do-it-yourself
salad bar for economy and variety and use all sorts of vegetables and
dressings. Use miniature hot rolls on the side. Dessert could be anything from
cake to miniature pastries to cookies. Include tuna or chicken salad on the
salad bar. Find some of that Indian corn to decorate with and maybe some corn
stalks.
Elizabeth asked:
Occasion: New Year's Eve
I would like to find a new years eve party to go to in the Houston area. One
were you wear tuxes and I wear a really nice dress. I would like to end the
year in style. since it is the year 2000. thank you.
The Party Girl's advice is:
Look for upcoming big events in the
society part of the paper and call some of the charities. There are always
worthwhile dressy benefits and events going on that time of the year.
Tahnee asked:
Occasion: hall decoration
I need a theme for our hall decorating contest......
The Party Girl's advice is:
I need details, what kind of hall,
budget, for when, occasion, etc.!!!!
zoa asked:
Occasion: Bach party for my sister
I want to do something different for her. No stripper or t-shirt ideas. Being
one of nine, we've been down those roads. Please advise me! Thanks, Zoa
The Party Girl's advice is:
Is there a pottery place near you where
you all can create your own pieces. If so, it's a great place to get creative,
funny and a bit silly. Or any sort of art-type project.
Rose asked:
Occasion: 20 year class reunion
We want to celebrate our class reunion, we are going to spend a weekend
together in a hotel in Puerto Rico, I'm planning to do a picnic or brunch @ the
high school were we attend and also have a formal dinner/dance, please help me
with any ideas that you might have regarding theme and different activities,
we are bringing our families.
The Party Girl's advice is:
Look at party411.com/themes for the
beach party or luau idea. Ties right in with the Puerto Rico stuff. You can
create the atmosphere at the school gym with limbo, funny drinks, fake palm
trees, etc. For some great decorations look at www.oriental.com for a
catalogue.
Gretchen asked:
Occasion: Millennium
I know that everyone is probably hounding you for ideas for the millenium. Some
friends and I are planning a party at my house - there will be about 20 or so
of us. Family and friends and we have all hung out together before. My biggest
concern is entertainment. I saw your ideas for games, but any others? Would
Pictionary be acceptable? But what can others, who don't want to play be
doing? Thanks for any words of wisdom.
The Party Girl's advice is:
I love Pictionary. Also Clue, Trivial
Pursuit, Charades, any games of laughing and competition. Tell each person to
bring a game suggestion with all the stuff needed to play and then you can
have other people's ideas incorporated.
danell asked:
Occasion: 40th anniversary & 60th birthday
My siblings and I are planning a surprise 40th anniversary and 60th birthday
party for our parents. We'd like some ideas for a theme and decorations. What
are the modern gifts for these years. We want it to be special for them but
not too costly for us. They have many friends and family that will be
attending, some from out of state. Their anniversary was in 1998 and their
birthdays are in 2000.(we didn't realize it was their 40th).
The Party Girl's advice is:
The traditional and modern anniversary
gift for 40 years is the ruby and the 60th is the diamond. Pretty pricey but
you don't have to do that. Figure out your budget and the number of people
that will attend. Maybe you could get them to pitch in for part of the cost
like the meals or the bar and that would save you all some money. figure out
where you will have the party and look at party411.com/themes for ideas for
what to do. Great decorations and other things at www.oriental.com at a
reasonable price. You might want to use the phrase "Better Late than
Never" to make up for the wrong year.
meri asked:
Occasion: bachelorette party
Please Help!! My sister is getting married in 4 days and I am supposed to
throw her a bachelorette party the night before. We are just going to gather at
a friend's house but I need some help on what to do.(Games, food, drinks, etc..) I would appreciate it if you can let me know within the next day
or so. THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Party Girl's advice is:
For some ideas, look at
party411.com/themes for the bachelorette party.
Rachel asked:
Occasion: game
We are having a outdoor day for the women in our area who hunt or fish, I'm
looking for a good mixer game to play. Is there anything you can think of
maybe even a game that we could change a little bit to make it appropriate????
I need your HELP. Event is Saturday, Oct. 23. Thank you!!! Rachel
The Party Girl's advice is:
Get a pic of each woman ahead of time
and hide it somewhere in the area you will be using. Assign each person
someone else and have prizes for the first to find, the last to find, etc.
pat asked:
Occasion: adoption party
We're celebrating the adoption of our four year old daughter. I'm stumped as
to what activities and even food to serve
The Party Girl's advice is:
What a wonderful thing to adopt an
older child. I hope you are calling it a "Family birthday party". If
you do that, you can have a real birthday party and put all the names on the
cake. Go the whole "birthday" theme with balloons, ice cream and
cake, presents, and children's games such as Pin the Tail but use a picture of
your daughter and play Pin the Smile. If you are having other children, get
some videos they like like Disney and then the grownups can talk in another
room. If you want to do a meal, go very casual like pizza, or hot dogs. Easy,
fun and not too formal and overwhelming.
amanda asked:
Occasion: Halloween
I was wondering if you know how to make a piņata. Or if you know were I
could look online for how to make a piņata. Thank you
The Party Girl's advice is:
It is a piņata. Look at
www.oriental.com for one of theirs. It's not hard to make but very messy and
they are not expensive. I have seen them at places like Michaels and Old
Pottery and some of the toy stores. It is just a wire shape with paper machete
put on and covered with colored paper. Hole in the top to put the
candy in and string to hang with.
Michele asked:
Occasion: gifts
I am looking for good ideas for "gag" gifts for a bride-to-be.
Things to do on the honeymoon is our theme.
The Party Girl's advice is:
Well, does you city have a store like
"Ambiance" or a Spencer's gifts? Those places have wonderful, funny
stuff, like edible undies, and other things. Also sample size products from
the drug store.
Carmody asked:
Occasion: A Halloween Party
Me and my best friend are having a Halloween party with boys and girls. We are
both 13 years old and in the 8th Grade. Our party is being talked about so
much it just has to be great. We have one game idea which is like a cross
between spin the bottle and truth or dare, but that's all we have. Do you have
any really fun games that teens 13 to 15 year old would like! I need answers
fast!!!!!
The Party Girl's advice is:
Look at party411.com/gamegirl for
suggestions. You might have a spooky scavenger hunt.
Lisa asked:
Occasion: party
I'm planning a Y2K party with about 20 40 yr olds. any suggestions? I'd
like to either do something rather elegant or something crazy! please give me
some hints and ideas... good catchy invite ideas too! Thanks
The Party Girl's advice is:
We have some great ideas at
party411.com/themes under special occasions - Millennium
Alora asked:
Occasion: sleepover
What can you do that would be a lot of fun at a sleep over w/ some buddies.
The Party Girl's advice is:
Everyone bring some goofy hair and
makeup products and have fun trying them all on each other. Also, bake -
nothing better than chocolate when you're with friends.
Sarah asked:
Occasion: slumber party
I need some ideas for games to play as my other sleep overs have lacked good,
fun party games. (Not childish!)There will only be girls there.
The Party Girl's advice is:
Look at party411.com/gamegirl for some
ideas.
Melissa asked:
Occasion: '80s dance
Help! I have to decorate for an '80s dance for my college, and I am clueless!
Please give me some cool decorating tips! Thanks!!
The Party Girl's advice is:
Well, the only thing I remember about
the 80's is Ronald Reagan and a healthy stock market. How boring! Do you have
to use that era. The 70's has much more going for it and there a great theme
idea on party411.com/themes.
Rhea asked:
Occasion: coming out party (Mexican)
I have been invited to a coming out party for a young girl that is also
turning 15,What kind of gift does one give for such a party? To be honest I'm not sure what it
means. Can you give me some insight on what to expect at this event. I could not find the proper term of the word in the Dictionary or on
line, can you help?
The Party Girl's advice is:
I'm not sure if it means the same in
Mexican culture but in American culture, a coming out is the same thing as a
debutante party. It traditionally signifies the young lady has reached an age
of maturity and is now able to take her place in society as a mature female.
As for a gift, that varies according to geographic location and tradition of
hosts. Ask your friends and others who are invited and see what they are
doing.
Elle asked:
Occasion: parties
I happened upon your website by way of search engine. Well, I haven't
been able to concentrate on what I was looking for to begin with! hehehe I am
planning my son's Christening for December and I have no idea on where to
start! Any ideas? I'd also like to plan a Millennium party for 30-40 guests-
any ideas for that one? Thank so much for your time and help! Elle
The Party Girl's advice is:
Millennium - look at party411.com/themes
for some millennium ideas and www.oriental.com for great decorations, favors,
etc. I'm not sure what part of the Christening you need help with but if it is
decorating, use the traditional baby stuff like blocks, rocking horses,
rattles, etc.
tina asked:
Occasion: Millennium party
I am having a millennium party at home. Please give me some ideas to party the
night away! Forget about DJ's, they are way over priced. Help! Tina.
The Party Girl's advice is:
Look at party411.com/themes for millennium
ideas.
Erin asked:
Occasion: party
Well, I did but I have my idea (I think). I might be having a cosmic bowling
party! Should I have a theme or not? If so what theme should I have??
Thanks Erin
The Party Girl's advice is:
Look at your budget. See if there will
be room for any extras after you pay all the bills from the bowling, food,
etc. If so, you could use a theme like "Have a Ball", and get all
sorts of balls to decorate and give as favors. Also balloons (Ball-shaped).
Look at www.oriental.com for one of their catalogues. Great and inexpensive
stuff. You could even have ball-related contests like Did You Know... (items
such as, how much air pressure in a basketball? and how many dimples in a golf
ball, etc.)
Kristen asked:
Occasion: New Year's Eve party
I am trying to think of a very unique idea/theme for a New Year's Eve party. I
like the idea you have for the decades rooms (one room 50's, another the
60's,etc), but I can see how that could get very pricey fast, and I want to
try to have all of the guests in two rooms rather than spread out throughout
the house. I also thought your millennium theme sounds interesting, but I
wouldn't even know where to begin to make all of those neat things. Any ideas
on a cool theme, decorating ideas, or ideas for our party. Thanks for your
help. I love your site!!!
The Party Girl's advice is:
Why not still have the decade party and
assign teams to make in advance something that represents the decade you
assign them. Look for different foods popular in each of these decades and
find clothes that represent each decade. Make stuffed people and dress them in
the clothes and take Polaroid's of the guests posing with the dummies. Play a
game with teams who have to work together. Have them think of a song from each
decade, a fad, a president, a popular movie star, etc.
Whitney B. asked:
Occasion: Birthday
I am going to invite boys to my party , but I don't know what music, or games.
The party is not for me, it is for the one boy I like a lot. He is turning 12.
Please write back to me as soon as you can. Thank you,
The Party Girl's advice is:
I don't get it, is it someone's
birthday or something? Are your hosting the party for someone else?
Amber asked:
Occasion: going away party
do you have any suggestions for themes
The Party Girl's advice is:
Have you checked party411.com/themes?
Beth asked:
Occasion: Company Holiday Party
I am planning my companies holiday party and I was wondering if you have any
ideas on fun things to do. We are going to be having it at a small fancy/artsy
restaurant and I was just wondering if you have ideas on games/awards/etc.
that we could do while we are eating/drinking/dancing. Any help would be much
appreciated! Thanks.
The Party Girl's advice is:
Make up "awards". I don't know
what business you are in but use that as the basis for your
"awards". For instance, if you were in the insurance business, you'd
have an award for the most clumsy who need the insurance most or if you sold
cars, you might have an award for the "fastest" one.
Heidi asked:
Occasion: Harvest party/Fall Festival
I'm looking for ideas to decorate our church in a fall theme using inexpensive
items that I can find sitting around or out in nature.
The Party Girl's advice is:
Corn stalks, colored leaves, pumpkins,
scarecrows made from straw and old clothes, bales of hay. Get balloons and a
tank of helium. Have an apple bobbing area.
someone asked:
Occasion: party
I want some ideas for some things we could do at my party....but I was thinking
this....what do u think?,...play music, dance, but then I want to do something
like truth or dare or spin the bottle or something.....is that stupid? because
this one kiss that I really like is coming.....what should we do
The Party Girl's advice is:
Look at party411.com/gamegirl for some
ideas. Can't be more specific without any details.
Lillian asked:
Occasion: New Year's
OK, I need help. I'm 14 and I've never thrown a party before. Now that its
close to the year 2000, I've decided that I want to throw New Year's Bash. My theme is based on time eras like the 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's, & 90's. But,
I need decorating, food, and game ideas. Can you help????? I am totally
clueless. Thanks!!!!
The Party Girl's advice is:
Pick what you think is the most
important thing from each decade, such as the invention of TV for the 50's,
hippies in the 60's, etc. Get you mom and dad to help. Blow up a picture and
mount that thing with signs attached about other important things in the
decade. Have music from all of them and ask your guests to dress to fit one of
them. Have a trivial pursuit type of game but you make up the questions and
don't have too many teams and keep it short.
Emily asked:
Occasion: homecoming hall decoration
need a real cute economical way to decorate our freshman hall for our
homecoming contest. Our mascot is a dragon and colors are orange, black, white
and silver. - Malad, Idaho
The Party Girl's advice is:
Put a great paper machete dragon at one
end of the hall, Have flames coming out of his nose and mouth and use colored
sheets as the flames and tie them and wrap them all the way down the hall.
Each student of the class should make a symbol, such as an arrow in their own
style and attach these to the flames. Play a tape of roars.
C Thibeau asked:
Occasion: Annual Kids Christmas Party
I am looking for something to add a twist to our party this year. It is going
on 24 years and has grown considerably. The party is for the children. Santa
arrives to pass out gifts and sing some songs. We do a craft to hang on the
tree as a keep sake.
The Party Girl's advice is:
Why not pick something like pairs of
socks or cans of food and have each child bring it as his or her
"present" for donation. Then Santa can explain how wonderful giving
really is.
Steven asked:
Occasion: I made a mistake at the homecoming and she is
mad at me
I thought that she was out of town so I ask a another girl to the dance and
there she was waiting for me how do I make it up to her she won't talk to me
at all or even look at me
The Party Girl's advice is:
Show up at her front door with a dozen
roses, a box of her favorite candy and some non-alcoholic champagne (I assume
you are underage). Write and present her a letter saying how you are feeling
and asking her for another chance.
Laura asked:
Occasion: Church Group Winter Social "Sock Hop"
Can you give us some ideas on decorations, DJ's or bands in the Washington,
D.C. area and also on kinds of food to serve at this social - I want this to
be the best winter social we ever had
The Party Girl's advice is:
For great decorations, check
www.oriental.com. they have everything in their catalogues and it is not
expensive. I would use all different pairs of socks for the decorations and
then donate them to a shelter or center. For DJ's in you area, you can check
at the home page on the left and look under your city for references. I would
have hot dogs, burgers, fries, pizza, milk shakes, all the stuff from the 50's.
Brenda asked:
Occasion: 20 year class reunion
I need a theme and decorations for a 20 year class reunion. We are having
ballgame on Friday night, dinner and dance on Saturday night. Our colors were
purple, white, and gold. Mascot - Wildcat. Any thoughts? Thanks
The Party Girl's advice is:
Are you kidding? This weekend and you
are now just writing. Good luck. Hit your local craft store for decorations
and check party411.com/themes for something that you can do for the last
minute. Get a picture of the wildcat enlarged to life size and cut out the
face and take Polaroid's of everyone looking thru it.
Nathaniel asked:
Occasion: Prom
When is the best time to ask a girl to the prom and how is the best way to ask
them?
The Party Girl's advice is:
You should hopefully be dating her
first and then slowly build up to the invitation. If you are dating, start
talking about it and making plans with her and other couples about 2 months
before so that you know what the costs are. If there is someone you would like
to go with, go on a date first to see if you two enjoy each other's company.
cpamka asked:
Occasion: bachelor party
At my bachelor party, this guy chained a bowling ball to my leg that had a
picture of my wife taped to it. Now, he is getting married, and I would like
to get him back. Any ideas?
The Party Girl's advice is:
Chain a ball to his leg with your
wife's picture.
Rhonda asked:
Occasion: Halloween Party
Hello, I am looking for ideas on how to do a "scavenger hunt" for
our annual Halloween party. I will have kids of all ages, probably broken up
into groups. I want to do something different this year and have chosen a
"hunt". However, the possibilities are endless on how to arrange
this hunt. I need suggestions on using clues or lists. Do I hide things myself
or just use natural objects. Do I have enough "objects" for each
group to find the same things, or just have one of each object and see who can
find the most??? These are the types of issues I am struggling with. I'd take
any advice you can give me or even suggestions on good resources. Thank You,
The Party Girl's advice is:
I would mix up planted objects and
existing objects. Mix the ages in the groups so that the older ones can help
the younger ones and make a few of the objects for only the younger ones to
find. Let them all look for the same list, it's easier. You might even want to
borrow some Polaroid cameras and have each team take a picture of what they
find. Try to be creative in your describing the objects but don't make it too
hard. After all, the object of the hunt is to have fun. Give the teams names
and at each place where the object is, have something for them to take to show
they found it like colored feathers or balloons that aren't yet blown up.
Alyson asked:
Occasion: X-mas
I am planning a cookie exchange party for Christmas, but I don't know how to
organize it. Please help!
The Party Girl's advice is:
1. Make a list of all who are going to
participate 2. Tell each person how many cookies to make. Each person should
choose the type and tell you so that there won't be too many duplicates. 3.
Decide if you will exchange one for one or make an assortment for each person.
4. Any other questions, write back.
