Lynn asked:
Occasion: Slumber Party
I need to have the BEST slumber party for me and 2 of my friends, we need
mature games, food, and movies!! HELP!
The Party Girl's advice is:
Look at
party411.com/themes for some ideas as well as party411.com/gamegirl. Hard to
be really specific without details. Makeovers, hair, etc.
Rachael asked:
Occasion: Volunteer Reception @ Work
I just recently got a new position and one of my first parties is to have a
volunteer reception for over 200 volunteers. We have the facility and the food
local restaurant providing. We are non-profit so I have next to nothing as far
as a budget. I have decide to go with a SWING theme since most of our
volunteers are retired and I think would enjoy bid band music. I have asked a
local dance company to come and be available for dancing. I need decorations,
however I am not so sure as to what type of decorations to use. I have gotten
suggestions but nothing is the right thing. Please help. Any other ideas as
far as invitations or anything would be greatly appreciated
The Party Girl's advice is:
If you are
talking about the Benny Goodman era of swing, go to the web and look under his
name. Also the Dorsey brothers. Find what memorabilia is appropriate and
download their pictures and blow them up as posters. Look at www.oriental.com
for their catalogue. Cute and inexpensive.
Noelle asked:
Occasion: Christmas
I have no clue how to plan a Christmas party (say for twelve people or so) and
need help on how to start! How does one cook for a big group? Any tips?
Thanks!
The Party Girl's advice is:
Age, couples or
singles, time, place, etc? Need to know specifics to advise specifically. If a
daytime party, roast a turkey ahead of time and slice it so it's ready for a
buffet. Write back with some details and I'll help. Also. check
party411.com/themes under the holiday area.
Anne asked:
Occasion: Social
Need ideas to decorate 24 tables for an Octoberfest theme. Also, some ideas or
possible recipes for German food.
The Party Girl's advice is:
For the food,
look at cookbooks that have sauerkraut, stuffed cabbage, wiener schnitzel,
spaetzel, etc. and beer. For decorations, use colored leaves surrounding great
beer steins which have fall colored balloons coming out of them, Sprinkle
glitter on the cloths.
Jolie asked:
Occasion: a car show and party afterwards
I need a theme for the car show during the day and a theme for the party
afterwards. The party will not sell alcohol, so any ages may come. The car
show will sell alcohol and have various events during the day. We just need
themes!! Help!
The Party Girl's advice is:
Go with the car
idea and use all sorts of cars from the Model T to concept cars. I'm sure your
local dealers will have lots of pics and memorabilia and so will the internet
to download. Go to craft type stores for small car related things. Get one of
those children's race games like slot cars and races and let the people play
them. Have checkered flags like the races and use them for table decorations
with balloons.
keena asked:
Occasion: get together
First I just wanted to thank you for having this site to ask questions. I am
in desperate need of your help!! Well a group of 8 of my friends get together
each month on a Saturday & each person takes a turn to think of something
unique or creative for the group to do. Well, this is my problem, usually I'm
very creative, but my turn will be near Valentine's day & I'm planning a
weekend @ a cabin for us girls. I'm not sure if I should plan the weekend
around a Valentine theme or something different. Our ages range from 23-29.
PLEASE HELP WITH IDEAS ON WHAT I SHOULD DO. THANKS
The Party Girl's advice is:
Do a Betty Boop
theme. You know, that cartoon character. She's sort of sexy and uses the black
and white and red theme. Go to www.oriental.com and get their catalogue. They
have great stuff. Also look at other catalogue sites for t-shirts and other
stuff.
Tricia asked:
Occasion: sleepover
Hi, I know this is spur of the moment but I just found out. I need game ideas
etc for a sleepover. all girls give me the scoop. its a group of Christian
(not nicey nice girls) cheerleaders from 5-16 girls ranging from 12-18
The Party Girl's advice is:
Look at
party411.com/gamegirl for ideas. Be sure to do makeovers.
Kathy asked:
Occasion: high school reunion
Do you have any decorating ideas for a 30th high school reunion. There will be
11 tables and a fireplace mantle that will need decorating. Our colors are
blue and gold, and our mascot is an Indian. Thank You.
The Party Girl's advice is:
I would use the
gold as the dominate color with blue accents. Look at www.oriental.com for
their catalogue, not expensive stuff. Go to the craft store and get gold
ribbon, glitter, icicles, candles (blue candles too) and any other gold
accessories they have. Sprinkle the glitter on the tops of the tables and the
mantle. Get a picture of your Indian mascot blown up and Play Pin-the-feather.
Andi asked:
Occasion: Homecoming Hallway Competition
I was wondering if you had any ideas of how we could decorate our Junior
Hallway. Our class decided on separating the hall into rooms. One room for
40s/50s, one for 60s/70s, one for 80s/90s and one for millennium. We have the
general idea for the decorations. But we are having trouble find easy access
and easy to throw together stuff to put in there. We are getting judged on it
this Thursday! Please help, any ideas would be great! Thanks!
The Party Girl's advice is:
If you mean this
Thursday, the 23rd, sorry, you waited too long. If you want to use a
continuing thread thru the decades, use music and the memorabilia attached to
the music of each decade. Clothes, vinyl records, tapes, CD's things of the
times.
Stephanie asked:
Occasion: New Year's Eve
I'm looking for ideas on how to plan this party and what kind of decorations
to put up.
The Party Girl's advice is:
First, look at
party411.com/themes for some ideas. Once you pick a theme, check out
www.oriental.com and get their catalogue for inexpensive decorations and
favors, etc. Have everyone wear the most outrageous PJs or nightshirts they
can find and give a prize to the best one.
Kala asked:
Occasion: sleepover
What idea's do you have for a sleepover for girls 12-13 years old?
The Party Girl's advice is:
the usual,
makeovers, hairdos, popcorn, lots of videos, gossiping about boys, baking
cookies or brownies or both.
Shosha asked:
Occasion: party
I'm trying to host a surprise party 4 my best friend. I can't do it at my
house or any of my other friends houses. I don't know how to raise money or
where to host it. NE ideas?
The Party Girl's advice is:
I would need to
know how old you are and how much you have to spend. Where can you have this
if not at someone's home? Why can't you use any of these places? Afraid I
can't help without more info.
Hamp asked:
Occasion: NEW YEARS 2000
I'm looking for something special to do on New Years. I'm thinking of throwing
a party at my home with a theme such as 2001 Kubrick's movie or traveling
somewhere where I have friends who have lived here as au pairs and like to
party. One is currently here from southern Sweden and from New
Caledonia--maybe take them there or go to southern France and meet with some
other friends
The Party Girl's advice is:
You are
certainly literally "all over the map". You must narrow this whole
thing down. If you stay home, look at party411.com/themes for holidays and
millennium parties.
Jennifer asked:
Occasion: Harvest Festival
We are trying to put on an old time event - carnival style with old melodrama
and music. Any ideas for games/ decorations/ activities?
The Party Girl's advice is:
Pumpkin carving,
mask making and decorating and the most original ghost story are great
activities for any age. Also face decorating with either decals or paint. For
decorating, use all the harvest stuff like colored corn, wheat stalks, bales
of hay scarecrows, colored leaves. Maybe you can find a hay wagon and horse
and have rides.
Welmoed asked:
Occasion: Annual open house
Our annual open house is approaching and I'm not sure of the direction to
take. Last year we had 120 people, this year we will probably have 150. The
food and drink are handled by a caterer, so that's no problem. We want to have
an atmosphere of elegance without being stuffy or pretentious. Question one:
is it too stuffy to have live music? What kind would be suitable? Q2: We want
to have party favors this year. What can we have that will run us between
$1-$2 per piece? And how do you hand out party favors at an open house? Q3:
How does one tip a caterer? On food and service? Just food? Just service?
Thanks for any help you can offer. P.S. the party runs from 2-5pm and we have
hors d'oeuvres and a sweet station as well as a bar.
The Party Girl's advice is:
1. Depending
upon the time of day, live music is fine. You could have a jazz group or a
pianist who plays requests as well as show and pop music. 2. Look at
www.oriental.com for cute and inexpensive stuff. You can always put them in a
large bowl by the door and tell the guests to take one when they leave. 3.
there is usually a service charge from the caterer which covers tips. Check
with the caterer.
Liz asked:
Occasion: party
I'm having a co-ed sleepover this weekend. Just a fun get-together with some
friends. Most of us are 16 years old. Do you have any ideas for fun stuff we
could do? I could really use your help. Thanks! *Liz*
The Party Girl's advice is:
I really can't
give you much help. don't really like the whole idea. Maybe you could give
everyone a box of crayons, paper, decals, blue, glitter, etc and a subject and
a time limit and let them draw.
Jenny O asked:
Occasion: Prom
Our class is having a prom but we don't want to have just a every day prom. We
want something more original than staying in a building and dancing. What do
you suggest?
The Party Girl's advice is:
Well, I have 2
suggestions. Plan a fund raiser to benefit a charity in the community or hold
a party in a children's ward or nursing home. Original and feel-good.
Debby asked:
Occasion: Fall Celebration or End of Summer
Please send a list of ideas for hunt items. Should it be a combination of
summer/fall/Halloween things or other specific things?
The Party Girl's advice is:
Use a
combination, pumpkins, Indian corn, leaves (who can find the most colors),
paper witches, ghosts, etc. Give each team a disposable camera and a list of
pictures to take and tell them at the end to take the camera to a local one
hour developer. While the film is being developed, eat and party and then pick
up the pix and see who won.
Julianne S. asked:
Occasion: New Year's Gala
I'm in charge of my school's New Year's Gala which is sponsored by the Senior
Class. The Senior Class would like to spend the least amount of money as
possible on decorations, tickets and programs, and souvenirs for this
event...we're saving up for our prom! I'm looking for ideas on how to do this.
There is no set theme yet, but we are looking towards "Space Age".
What can we use for decorations that is cheap but will still give a futuristic
look? How can we save on tickets and programs? What should are souvenirs be?
If we cannot do the "Space Age" theme with a low budget, what theme
should we have and how should we go about with the decorations, tickets and
programs, and souvenirs? The event will be held on the night of Dec. 30th, so
there will be no actual countdown to the new year. Is there anything that we
can do to make this event exciting nevertheless? Please give me any of your
ideas! I really need some help! Thanks!
The Party Girl's advice is:
Have you thought
about the concept of starting the New Year with sharing. Select a food center
or shelter. Make decorations from boxes and can of donated food with balloons
tied to them. Photocopy coupons for tickets and forget the programs. Have a
spaghetti dinner with garlic bread and salad (a hobo dinner) with chips,
pretzels, etc. For dessert have ice cream treats such as Popsicles, etc. If
you don't want to have a DJ, have a contest to see who in the class would make
the best DJ (good entertainment). Make arrangements to take the food to the
charity after the party and have anyone and everyone participate.
Super asked:
Occasion: theme
I was looking for a theme along the lines of grammys, or film awards.
The Party Girl's advice is:
Check www.party411.com/themes.html
for this party.
Liane asked:
Occasion: Millennium Party
I am looking for suggestions for an exciting theme for a millennium party.
Something fun, but not too complex.
The Party Girl's advice is:
Have you looked
at party411.com/themes at the party there?
caylan asked:
Occasion: new years
I want to have a cool millennium party but I have a small budget $300 please
help me to have thhhe coolest party around with a small price
The Party Girl's advice is:
Look at
party411.com/themes for a millennium suggestion.
Judi asked:
Occasion: cancer patient under chemo-need hats
What would be the best way to have a hat party? Do I need party favors, games,
take-home gifts for the guest? What would you do?
The Party Girl's advice is:
No favors
needed. What a great idea and what a good friend you are. Get a picture of the
guest of honor and blow it up and play Pin-The-Hat and then have everyone sign
in on it. Go to the local craft store and find hat-related crafts for the
guest to do for fun. They can take these home as favors. Use all sorts of hats
for decorations, go to thrift stores and dollar stores.
jessica asked:
Occasion: senior citizens ball
What kind of decorations and refreshments?
The Party Girl's advice is:
I need more
details such as age of seniors, budget, details on theme, food, etc. Write
back.
Christal asked:
Occasion: just to have fun
HELP!!! I'm 13 and having a slumber party with at least 6 of my friends. I
have no clue as what to do when they get here. Got any suggestions?
The Party Girl's advice is:
Makeovers
Hairdos Baking Videos Twister
Rudy asked:
Occasion: Get-to-know new neighbors
We are new to our neighborhood, and invited a few of our neighbors over as a
way to get to know them. What theme or game would you suggest as a way for all
of us to learn more about each other?
The Party Girl's advice is:
One route to
take would be asking for suggestions from the guests. For instance, where is a
good place to shop for (?). Leads to discussion. Also, if your city has sports
teams. Good restaurants. Fitness centers. Good way to find out their interests
without seeming too nosy. Another causal way to entertain new people is with
do-it-yourself sundaes. Somehow that makes people laugh. Include lots of
interesting, unusual stuff, like Halloween candy, miniature chocolate chips
and have fresh fruit cut small enough to go either with the ice cream or
alone. For some game ideas, see party411.com/gamegirl.
Sherrie asked:
Occasion: Millennium Party
I want to have a small crowd (maybe 10 couples) over and would like to make it
a "fun" dinner party! Maybe ask guests to dress in an era of formal
wear and have dancing after dinner. Any ideas form us! Help!
The Party Girl's advice is:
10 couples would
be perfect for each decade. Not just dressing the decade but any memorabilia,
photos, etc. from the era. You can either assign them or let them choose. I
love this idea. Try to include music and fads and thing like that from each
decade. Have prizes for the cleverest costume, the most "stuff", the
most accurate, the least accurate, etc. Look at www.oriental.com for great
decorations and favors. Also look at the millennium party at
party411.com/themes for other suggestions.
Karen asked:
Occasion: bachelorette party
what can I plan that is fast and fun? I live in Las Vegas, but the old club
scene is boring and we don't gamble. Any suggestions for a casino/hotel party?
The bride to be isn't much into male strippers or strip clubs.
The Party Girl's advice is:
Why not have
some cosmeticians come in and do makeovers and hair dressers for hair. Maybe
even a masseuse. Pamper yourselves, you'll feel great!
JENNIFER asked:
Occasion: dinner
Hi, I'm having a casual sit-down dinner party for eight people (including
myself and my husband) in early November. Any suggestions for a theme? The
guests are three ex-coworkers and their spouses. Ages range from 28-48.
The Party Girl's advice is:
You could pick a
country like Italy, Germany or a state like Hawaii and serve the appropriate
food, have the appropriate music, get posters from a travel agent. Or have an
Around-the-World dinner with different courses from different places. Keep it
informal whatever you decide to make everyone feel comfortable. You could play
a game like Trivial Pursuit, teaming men against women.
Paul asked:
Occasion: dinner party
looking for 4 blue/white checkered table cloths cloths. either approx 60
inches round or square. poly/cotton thanks
The Party Girl's advice is:
If you can't
find them anywhere on the internet, try www.oriental.com. go to a fabric store
and get the material and have someone sew them. It's not hard. Or if you would
like, we could get them for you. Let us know.
Pat asked:
Occasion: Block Party
Looking for some suggestions for a Block Party and actives to do for all ages.
The Party Girl's advice is:
Call you local
fire department and see if they will bring over the engine. Everyone loves
that. Have the kids decorate their bikes and trikes and have a parade. Do face
painting for kids and adults. Put up a volleyball net. Put a picture of an
animal on everyone's back and see how long it takes everyone to identify their
animal. Only allowed to ask yes and no questions. Have a prize for the oldest,
the tallest. Get a boom box and play music. If someone plays the guitar, ask
them to play. Have everyone bring a dish.
Dianne asked:
Occasion: 40th Class Reunion
Do you have any ideas for the theme? We were thinking about the millennium
What else?
The Party Girl's advice is:
You could have a
"Back to the Future" theme and use all the things that were going on
your graduation year. Or you could have a luau and really go crazy. For
details on that, look at party411.com/themes.
Tracey asked:
Occasion: Bachelorette Party
I am planning a get together of about 10 women at an Oceanside Resort in
Courtenay, B.C. CANADA. The bride to be is a very classy woman and wouldn't be
interested in doing the "typical" games. She enjoys fitness, James
Bond movies, cigars and scotch. The spa is booked while we're there and we're
arranging for kayaking so my question is what kind of games do we do to get
people to know each other and should there be a gift given?
The Party Girl's advice is:
I don't think a
gift is necessary. Not knowing about the details of the party, I can only
suggest looking at party411.com/gamegirl.
K asked:
Occasion: Help!!!!
We are looking for something exciting this year. Perhaps the Jetson's or a New
York, New York theme. Do you have any ideas?
The Party Girl's advice is:
Have you looked
at party411.com/themes yet? See if there is something there for you
Kayla asked:
Occasion: Halloween party
I would like to have a boy/girl Halloween party but my mom says what will we
do? I don't want to play games I thought about a dance but who could do the
music I really don't want to pay for a D.J. any ideas please help? thanx kayla
The Party Girl's advice is:
Really, I think
that if you want to have a party and don't know what to do, you aren't really
ready to have that party. Listen to your mom.
kristen asked:
Occasion: homecoming
can you please e-mail me some pictures of boutonnières. my date bought me a
thirty dollar mum and I have no idea what kind of boutonnières to get him!
The Party Girl's advice is:
Instead of
e-mailing one, go to a florist and see the various ones they offer. The type
of flower will determine the price. For example, carnations are less expensive
than roses. A good florist will work with you.
Michelle asked:
Occasion: bachelorette party
looking for something like a "pleasure party". need someone to come
and present "toys" books, lotions, etc..play games, and offer stuff
to buy the "bride". I have no idea where to begin, please help.
thanks!! Michelle
The Party Girl's advice is:
Check the theme
area of the home site. Also, some stuff is available at places like Spencer's
gift, a mall chain store and lingerie stores. Check the internet with a word
search.
Jill asked:
Occasion: just a party
I was wondering if you had any great ideas or suggestions to go along with a
disco theme?
The Party Girl's advice is:
Look at the old
Austin Powers film and see the new one for ideas. Play lots of oldies like
Donna Summers. Rent a mirror ball and hang it and let it turn and shine a spot
light on it. See if you can find lava lamps. Have everyone dress the part.
Mallory asked:
Occasion: Christmas
What are some ideas do design a teenager type of Christmas party?
The Party Girl's advice is:
If you want a
holiday theme, look at the home page on top on the right and select occasion,
holidays. Adapt one for yourself. Or just make one up like give everyone
attending extra large holiday night shirts to wear at the party with those
stocking caps. Hang mistletoe and decorate with holiday trimmings. Blow up a
large pic of Santa and play Pin-the-Beard. Take Polaroid's of everyone and
give them to the guests as favors. Have stocking for everyone filled with
candy and trinkets.
Kelli asked:
Occasion: Fall Party
I want to know a clever way to incorporate both the wine tasting and the
spaghetti/pasta dinner without losing people's interest during the wine
tasting portion. I would expect the party to have twenty guests maximum.
Because table space is limited I figure on doing a casual buffet for serving
the dinner. I have the wine already.
The Party Girl's advice is:
Why not have a
different style and shape of pasta for each win tasted. Make a funny title for
the pasta dish according to the name of the wine. Put little signs on them.
And have a contest for pasta naming by the guests. Most wine tasting is dull
because it goes on too long and the talking is boring. Avoid both of these
mistakes. Only xenophiles enjoy that.
James asked:
Occasion: Bachelor Party
I'm trying to get some ideas on what to do for my bro's bachelor party. It
will be about 10-12 guys. Nothing too raunchy. Trying to keep the whoring to a
minimum. Can you suggest some good guy bonding fun in the San Fran. area?
The Party Girl's advice is:
Look at the home
page on the left and go to the San Francisco site and see what it has to
offer.
j_bug asked:
Occasion: Halloween
I need ideas for decorating and games, entertainment, etc. The Theme is
"The Roaring Twenties"
The Party Girl's advice is:
I assume you
want roaring 20's decorations. Get glittery headbands with a feather in it for
the women and fake mustaches for the men. Anything art deco will work,
anything in black and white. Look at www.oriental.com and find pictures of
flappers. Blow up a 20's couple dancing and cut out the faces and have the
guests stick their faces in and take a Polaroid. If you can't find a bathtub,
get a large metal tub and label it bathtub gin. Hang a silver mirrored ball
that revolves and focus a spotlight on it. Make smoke with dry ice and water
and put it in the corners for effect. Look at party411.com at the top right
under occasion and pick holiday.
Jessie asked:
Occasion: Slumber Party
I was wondering if you had any face masks or hair treatments that us girls can
mix up at home and apply to each other! All my friends LOVE doing things like
that but I can't think of anything we can make at home, that's easy, and we
won't burn the place down trying to make! And that I won't have to spend a
whack of cash on!! Thanx a lot!!
The Party Girl's advice is:
I wouldn't begin
to give that sort of information. You need to talk to a professional to be
safe.
DD asked:
Occasion: Dinner Party
Have you ever heard of a "dumb dinner"? I'm planning one and having
difficulty coming up with the menu. The husband dresses up like a waitress and
the wife dresses up like a chef. Each guest is provided a menu. They are
allowed to order 3 items from that menu at each course. The guests don't
really know what they are ordering because the menu items are in riddle form.
For example, a menu item might read "You'll find me on top of old
smokey" and they would get meatballs. Another item might read, "A
heavenly-do" and they would get angel hair pasta. I'm looking for
suggestions for the menu. Any ideas?
The Party Girl's advice is:
I have never
heard of this and it seems like a very complicated thing to do. Go back to the
source of this idea and find out what you can.
Tonya asked:
Occasion: Very Large Family Reunion
I need game ideas for adults for 100-200 people for a family reunion.
The Party Girl's advice is:
Have everyone
send a baby picture of themselves with their name written on the back. Put
them all on a board with numbers and see who can get the most right. Have a
prize for the oldest and the youngest. See how many people have the same
birthday. Use these and other facts on a "Did you know...." fact
sheet. Blow up a picture of a tree with lots of branches and play Pin-The-Leaf
on the tree.

Everything Else.
