Taryn asked:
Occasion: Father's Day
I am looking for a unique way to celebrate father's day. Make it kind of
special. There are garden parties for Mother's day, etc. but can't find many
ideas for father's day
The Party Girl's advice is:
Think about what your Dad likes like
fishing or other sports, books, travel, etc. You could build a theme around
one of these. Check out party411.com/themes for other ideas. Also look at the
new products part of the home page. You might want to do an edible photo,
buttons, etc.
Nancy asked:
Occasion: synagogue social event
I had once read an interesting funny poem about the seating arrangements at
these types of things, requesting forgiveness if you are not seated with your
friends. Do you know of this?
The Party Girl's advice is:
I don't know this particular poem. You
might do a random search on the web, starting with poetry and dig from there.
Or you could ask your local librarian to help. Or you could write your own
which may sound hard but would be fun once you got started. The secret is to
know how you want to end it and work from there.
Shawn Stamper asked:
Occasion: A Summer Party
I'm planning a summer party and would like all the info you have on a retro
dance party. such as ideas for costumes and games I have the decor down but a
few suggestions would help. Thanks a lot.
The Party Girl's advice is:
I'm not sure what retro really is. It
seems that different people have different ideas. I would simply pick a decade
and learn about it. Then you could pick the dress and write back for
suggestions.
Terri Kaupp asked:
Occasion: Parent's 40th Anniversary
My brother, sister and I are planning a anniversary party for my parents at a
friend of the family's house. I have already started to work on a scrapbook for
my parents present. I would like to give the couple hosting the party a gift
for letting us use their home - any suggestions? Also, the party
will be held outside in the evening - I am already planning on having
Citronella candles on the tables and the perimeter and white lights in the
bushes to give it some atmosphere - any other suggestions on how to decorate
for an outdoors evening party?
The Party Girl's advice is:
First of all, a handwritten letter of
thanks is always the best way to start. You might want to take secret pictures
of the host couple along with photos of the evening and put them in an album.
Put the thank you letter there too. Give them this along with either a gift
certificate for dinner at a good restaurant.
jenny blake asked:
Occasion: kick off to summer
hi. We are planning a beach party where the theme is Grease. There will be
about 20 7 and 8 year old girls and boys. Any ideas for invites, games,
decorations, or clever serving ideas? Thanks, Jenny
The Party Girl's advice is:
Look at the new Products area on the
home page. You might want to do the buttons, charades, or the edible photo.
Also inquire for help in the other areas. We can do all those things in your
theme.
Nancy asked:
Occasion: year end property
I am starting late for ideas for a end of school ice cream party. I love this
site and will bookmark for future use.
The Party Girl's advice is:
Maybe using school colors, get ice
cream in those colors and set up a do-it-yourself ice cream bar with
sprinkles, etc. Have glitter, balloons, streamers, noisemakers.
Kim Newman asked:
Occasion: family picnic
do you have any good ideas on homemade or very inexpensive 50's table
decorations. We are having a contest.
The Party Girl's advice is:
See if you can find some old 45's
(records, ask your parents.) Use these along with cutouts of Jukeboxes, and
glitter and balloons. Think Happy Days for stuff.
Stephanie asked:
Occasion: end of school pool party
I need help I have no clue how to make this the best party ever! You have to
give me some advice. What games should we play? How should I decorate it? HELP
party girl!!!!
The Party Girl's advice is:
First of all check the
party411.com/themes and party411.com/gameguide sites and especially under
bar/bat mitzvah for themes and ideas. For inexpensive stuff, look at your
local dollar stores. Since you have use of a pool, have water volleyball, toss
the water balloon, etc.
"Kerry" asked:
Occasion: barbecue theme
Hi Every other year my husband and I throw a huge b-b-q for all our friends
and family. This year we are going to try and do a pig roast, I rent a hot dog
cart and cotton candy machine. We usually have baked beans, meatballs, sausage
and peppers and other things usually brought by the guests. We don't know what
kind of theme to do - usually what I do is coordinate everything - the first
year everything was very floral, the second time we had a flag with snoopy
barbecuing so the invites matched and we did the checkered table clothes and
so on. This year we might have cups and t-shirts made - Can you help
come up with an idea - I would like the cups & tees to match my invites
and so on. 3 ideas we have come up with is: 1. Mardi Gras theme 2. Luau 3. New
Year's Eve theme I like the luau theme b/c we have the pig - but I think
everyone does it - I like to be different. The Mardi Gras theme seemed fun -
my sister lives in New Orleans and we can get the beads and masks - but would
it be stupid with a pig - hot dog cart and cotton candy machine. The New
Year's Eve one was ok - being the last big bbq at our house in 99 - but when
do you do the toast? Do you like any of these? Do you have any
suggestions other than these? or do you have suggestions to work with
these? Thank you Kerry P.S. our b-b-q is July
The Party Girl's advice is:
Check party411.com/themes and look for
beach/Hawaiian, etc. Lots of ideas. Also check out the new products area for
cute stuff. As for matching, check www.oriental.com. They carry lots of theme
stuff that coordinates. Play lots of beach boys, carve out watermelons and
fill with fruit, include fruit kabobs both cold and for the grill, have paper
umbrellas for the drinks (include some sort of punch), do the limbo and play
toss the water balloons. Get paper leis and hula skirts (for the guys also).
Have fun.
theresa young asked:
Occasion: friends over
I would just love to have some new ideas to keep people having fun or new
ideas on how to design a party theme
The Party Girl's advice is:
Check out party411.com/themes and
party411.com/gameguide for some ideas. Also, look at the new products on the
main page.
Joanna Anderson asked:
Occasion: Party411 Party Girl Advice
all you did was send me to your page, I have already looked at it and I saw
that you could answer my question, so...........please give me some advice!
The Party Girl's advice is:

Ashlee asked:
Occasion: going away party
Dear Party Girl, I need your help! My name is Ashlee and I am 13 years old.
I'm in charge of throwing a surprise going away party for my best friend and
I'm out of ideas. I know it's going to be a pool party. We won't be serving
food, just snacks. I'm also on a limited budge, around $200+. Please help!!!!
Thanks a bundle! -Ashlee
The Party Girl's advice is:
Look at party411.com/themes at beach party/Hawaiian for ideas. Play water volleyball and have races. Do the
limbo (ask your mom) and have a water balloon toss. Get a picture of the guest
of honor and blow it up and mount it. Have all the guests sign in. Ask the
guests to bring pictures of themselves and to write a message on the back and
put these in an album.
Vera asked:
Occasion: Just a plain party, no occasion
= Hi, I am 15 years old and my sister and I decided to throw our first party.
It's no special occasion, just to have some fun while school is out. However,
since the party room costs $170, I'm having tough time deciding on kind of
food and theme/decorations I want to have, since tight budget is a problem. Do
you have any ideas?
The Party Girl's advice is:
Have an indoor pool party. Have the
guests dress in pool clothes and get blowup stuff like rings, rafts, etc. Get
a plastic pool and fill it with some water and have a boat race. Look at
party411.com/themes at beach/Hawaiian stuff for more ideas. Serve burgers,
dogs, chips, snow cones, popsicles, punch, fruit etc. For inexpensive
decorations, check the dollar stores or www.oriental.com.
shaimful asked:
Occasion: A girls night out
I have a girls night out once a year. This is my 8th year and needless to say
I've run out of ideas on invitations. Just wondered if you had any ideas. My
husband goes fishing every year and that's when I have it. I invite about 100
girls and its a blast. Themes in the past have included Elvis, Barbie, garden
party, beach party, a luau. I'm lost and would appreciate any help.
Thanks.
The Party Girl's advice is:
Would you like to do a take-off on a
fishing theme? I have lots of stuff you can use to make fun of the whole
"fishin" thing. Let me know and we can talk further. If not, write
back and we'll come up with something else.
diana apple asked:
Occasion: millennium picnic party
help! I am having a hard time finding any info about millennium parties i.e. invitations, decorations, music etc.
The Party Girl's advice is:
Keep checking party411.com. We just
posted a millennium site and will continue to add to it. Also, for some goods,
check www.oriental.com.
Nicole asked:
Occasion: Get acquainted
I am trying to plan a party for a bunch of girls and I was wondering if you
could sort of help me/ or give me a layout of a sleep over party for little
girls. Thanks, Nicole
The Party Girl's advice is:
First of all, check party411.com/themes
under bat mitzvah and children's parties. Also, check party411.gameguide for
some ideas. Plan to make something in the kitchen like chocolate chip cookies.
Nothing better than raw dough and the smell of freshly baked cookies. Turn off
the lights and use flashlights and tell ghost stories. Use the family room
with a TV, sleeping bags, videos, popcorn and soft drinks.
Robert Howze asked:
Occasion: Ice Breakers
I need an ice-breaker for a Christian Women's Retreat. I need something to get
the ladies involved and also create situations that requiring "getting to
know one another". Please help--the Retreat is this weekend: May
28-30,1999.
The Party Girl's advice is:
Sorry I got this too late to help you -
hope you had a good retreat, write again but sooner, with any other questions.
claire asked:
Occasion: rehearsal party
I am looking for some creative and unique ideas for table tops and
arrangements. The table cloths are red and white plaid. Any ideas are
appreciated!
The Party Girl's advice is:
Find a picture of a bride and groom and
put the couples pictures in the faces. Blow a bunch of these up to about 18-24
inches tall and mount on foam core. Glue to a flat piece of foam and decorate
around with balloons, streamers, glitter, etc. Go to the dollar store or look
at www.oriental.com for other stuff to use at the base. You could put the
couple on a cake. There's lots of ideas but don't make it so big that the
people can't talk to each other.
ang asked:
Occasion: bachelorette party
Help what Can we do for entertainment at this affair?? I need some ideas for
games and jokes or anything funny. Any ideas???
The Party Girl's advice is:
Check out party411.com/gameguide for
some ideas. Blow up a picture of her fiancée and mount it on a board.
Duplicate body parts on papers (pick the ones you want) and play a version of
pin-the-tail. Truth or Dare is always good, especially at an all-girl party.
Go to one of "those" stores and get gag gifts i.e. edible underwear,
etc.
Donna asked:
Occasion: combo party
I'm having a 3 year old girl party and our wedding anniversary party all in
one think that you could help I have a large back yard and recently put up a
swing set (still in the process) a large wooden one it will be done by the
time I have the party. thought perhaps a back yard garden or barnyard help
need ideas that will work for all thank you Donna
The Party Girl's advice is:
First of all, decide whether you want
the theme to appeal to kids or adults. Then check party411.com/themes for some
ideas. I would get 2 cakes and find a bakery with a scanner and have pictures
of the honorees put on the top of the cakes. Remember, balloons and bubbles go
great for everything and if you have the yard, use it. But, remember, it may
rain or something so have a Plan B.
Melissa Danner asked:
Occasion: Father's Day
Please give me some ideas on food for our luau that would help lend some
atmosphere to the party. We are planning to use watermelon and pineapple boats
for serving, but could use some other suggestions. Thanks!
The Party Girl's advice is:
Due to your budget this will be
challenging. If you have grills available, create kabobs using veggies and
chicken or pork. Marinate them and then grill them. Either buy or make your
own banana chips and use macadamia nuts. You can also serve different
varieties of rice. Make a fruit punch and instead of ice cubes, freeze some
punch ahead in a ring mold or other gelatin mold. That way, when it melts, it
won't dilute the punch. For other suggestions, check party411.com/themes.
ALL OUT IN ALBUQUERQUE asked:
Occasion: RETRO PARTY
I AM HAVING A RETRO PARTY, AND I CAN'T THINK OF ANYTHING TO DO FOR
ENTERTAINMENT. I THOUGHT ABOUT RETRO TWISTER, AND CHARADES AND STUFF, BUT I
DON'T WANT MY GUESTS TO GET BORED WITH THE GAMES AND STUFF. CAN YOU SEND ME
SOME IDEAS? ALL OUT IN ALBUQUERQUE
The Party Girl's advice is:
I know, at your age things can be
really boring. Check out party411.com/gameguide for some possibilities.
Wendy asked:
Occasion: school quiz night
Our table of 12 needs a theme costume. Past ideas are - Cinderella with
girls in ball gowns and some men as the ugly step- sisters -
Back to school - everyone in uniform - Star wars - Princess Leia;
C3P0; Chewbacca etc Help me please
The Party Girl's advice is:
You could do a backwards table where
everyone wears their clothes backwards, turns their chairs backwards, eats in
reverse order, etc. You could be Teletubbies in all the colors, You could all
be dressed as preschoolers in short pants and dresses and ribbons in hair with
pacifiers etc.
Doreen Urtuzuastegui asked:
Occasion: baptism
I need some original and creative ideas for decorations and activities at the
reception (besides eating, drinking and dancing). About 50 people will attend
and will represent all age groups. Thanks!
The Party Girl's advice is:
Did you check party411.com/themes for
ideas of themes and party411.com/gameguide for activities?
Sherri asked:
Occasion: Romantic Tropical night
Because this weekend is Memorial day, and my boyfriend and I both wanted to go
away and we can't, and we both want to go somewhere tropical, I decided I
wanted to bring the tropics to us. I want a fun tropical evening with a
romantic twist as well. I have already bought a few things but any ideas would
help. Thanks
The Party Girl's advice is:
I assume this is an evening for two.
Paste stars on the ceiling, also the moon. Drape light blue chiffon scarves
over the lamps. Set the table for two and don't have a "usual
dinner". Have pina coladas or another tropical drink. Wear bathing suits
or flowered shirts, leis, grass skirts, etc. Think fruit kabobs, banana chips,
and some dish with pineapple like sweet and sour chicken. Have island music
playing and turn on a blowing fan. Borrow a small plastic pool and fill with
sand to play or even some water. Use your imagination.
John asked:
Occasion: fun party
I went to a party a at a friends home few years ago where the kitchen was
"off limits" and each guest was given a menu of choices for the
evening. Included on this menu, (but unknown to the guest) were in addition to
the food choices, were the eating utensils. All of the menu items were in a
encrypted form: A devil's favorite - A Fork High-temperature polo - Backed
chicken That is about all I can remember and my question is have you
ever heard of such a PARTY? I would like to do it with my friends. Thank you
in advance John
The Party Girl's advice is:
Sorry, I have never heard of this. See
what you can remember or try to remember who had it.
Karen Ifield asked:
Occasion: Salsa/Latino Themes party
Hello I would just like some information on typical Latino themes for
parties such as decorations etc.. Many Thanks Alpha Credit
Bank
The Party Girl's advice is:
Check party411.com/themes for
suggestions. A good place to get decorations is www.oriental.com.
glenelle cutrufo asked:
Occasion: going away for summer party for 16 year old girl
need lots of games that this age group will think are fun to play.
The Party Girl's advice is:
Try the site www.party411.com/gameguide
for ideas. Also, ask the kids themselves. Since you have a pool available,
water volleyball and races are a natural. Also a tug of war across the pool.
Have a limbo contest and play pass-the-orange. Go to the dollar store and get
bubbles for everyone. You're never too old for bubbles.
"John F. Malachowski" asked:
Occasion: Restaurant Menu Party
Hi, A few years ago I went to a party at a friend's home where the kitchen was
"off-limits" and each guest was given a "menu" to pick
what they wanted. However, contained within this "menu" was the
cups, plates, silverware, etc. including the food. If you didn't
"order" the silverware and plates, etc at first, you got to eat the
food you ordered without the utensils. or if you ordered the food first
without the utensils, you had to eat the food again without plates. The food
and the utensils were encrypted as to what they really were: The fork was
"A devil's tool" Drinks were "in the mood" That is
all that I can remember and I was wondering if you ever heard of such a crazy
party? Thanks in advance John Malachowski
The Party Girl's advice is:
I haven't heard of this before, but
then, there are lots of things that are news to me. I would imagine that you
could take your memories of this and fill in the blanks.
DANIELLE asked:
Occasion: SUMMER PARTY
SO FAR WE THOUGHT OF DREAD LOCK WIGS, JIMMY BUFFET & STEEL DRUM MUSIC.
FISH NETS EVERYWHERE. WHAT ELSE?
The Party Girl's advice is:
Lots of cocoanuts, hollow them out and
use as cups and put candles in them to light. And drums, lots of different
decorated drums. And voodoo dolls. Check out www.oriental.com for some
possibles. Serve margaritas as you play Buffet. Wear colorful shirts and
ragged shorts. Do the limbo. Put fake fish in the nets. And be sure to say
"Mon" all the time.
rebecca asked:
Occasion: sweet sixteen
what do you do in the church? Do I enter in last with my dama's? When do I
dance with my dad?
The Party Girl's advice is:
You could probably decorate the church
with flowers but check with your pastor. You lead off the first dance with
your dad. I don't know what a dama is.
TAMI asked:
Occasion: LUAU PARTY FOR 2 GIRLS
I NEED SOME GAME IDEAS AND MORE DECORATING IDEAS FOR A PARTY FOR TWO GIRLS AGE
3 AND 11. THE THEME IS LUAU. I AM ALSO TRYING TO INCLUDE THE POOL IN OUR
BACKYARD FOR GAMES, ETC.
The Party Girl's advice is:
Check out party411.com/gameguide for
game ideas and /themes for decorating ideas. I hope your are making pineapple
and watermelon boats to serve in. Check www.oriental.com for some great luau
decorations.
Lindsay asked:
Occasion: toga party for senior skip day
we all want to wear togas but have no idea how to make them any
suggestions
The Party Girl's advice is:
For the gals, if you are short enough,
take a pillow case and cut a hole for your head and one for each arm. Use
decorative rope (see your fabric store) to tie at shoulders and to make a
belt. Maybe some for your hair. For the guys and gals too large for pillow
case, tying a sheet can be tricky. Don't rely on knots, use lots of safety
pins. Remember, you can use the single or double shoulder approach. Have
someone drape and pin you and then you do them.
Chrisy asked:
Occasion: end of school
How could I plan a party for the end of the school year/ year 2000
party?
The Party Girl's advice is:
Well, since we don't know what will be
different in the year 2000, you're free to make up anything you want to. You
could go very futuristic (like the Jetsons) or use Star Wars, etc.. Check out
party411.com/themes for some ideas.
Cheryl Glandon asked:
Occasion: Going away party
What's a good theme or idea for a going away party.
The Party Girl's advice is:
First of all, gather photos for each
family and have guests write down stories or memories, and put them in an
album for each one to keep. Buy disposable cameras and take pics at the party
and give them to the one leaving. Check party411.com/themes for some ideas.
for party stuff, if there isn't a place near you for things, check
www.oriental.com.
Valerie asked:

Please help, we want to swim, cookout, and/or campout. It might be too cold
to swim so what do we do? We need party ideas and a theme. HELP ASAP!! thanks,
Valerie & Tiffany
The Party Girl's advice is:
First of all, why not call the party
"Memories". Gather pictures of him and his stay and put them in an
album along with stories and memories. Have everyone write something. He'll
keep that forever. Check out party411.com/themes for some ideas. Also
