Stephanie Chrzanoski asked:
Occasion: Indy 500
Help! need neat ideas for the men, women and children! ages 2-7. Indy 500
race. Thank you!
The Party Girl's advice is:
Use the traditional black and white
checkerboard pattern for decorations and flags. Look at www.oriental.com for
"race" stuff. Find a bakery which uses a scanner and have a race car
scanned in for a cake. Have the guests bring their Little Tykes, etc kind of
cars and have races. Fill a pool with water and have boat races and pretend
they are cars. Have all sorts of races geared to all ages such as duck, duck
goose for the kids, grownups like it too, pin the tail on the donkey bur you
have pin the tailpipe on the race car.
Margie asked:
Occasion: Pool Party
Hello! I was wondering if you could give me a theme for my annual end of the
year (school year) party. Its going to be a pool party, and your probably going to
say Hawaiian but I have done that for the past 2 years I want something new and
I cannot think of anything. PLEASE HELP!
The Party Girl's advice is:
Have you checked out
party411.com/themes for some ideas. Also, party411.com/gameguide. Also think
about some of the hot things that are going on this year. Star Wars, Rugrats,
etc. You could go western or have a kiddie party.
Dee asked:
Occasion: sweet 16
My daughter would like to have a Sunset Beach theme for her sweet 16. The
party coordinator is discouraging this idea because the majority of guests are
not familiar with this relatively new show. Can an unfamiliar theme be pulled
off or should we come up with something else?
The Party Girl's advice is:
I agree, too obscure for the majority.
It would have no meaning. Choose something else. Try party411.com/themes for
some ideas
Christine asked:
Occasion: Sweet Sixteen
What can I have as a theme for my party?
The Party Girl's advice is:
Check www.party411.com/themes for some
ideas. Especially check the Bar/Bat mitzvah area.
Nadeen Strine asked:
Occasion: Bachelorette Party
I am having a bachelorette party but we need a theme. She doesn't want to wear
a T-shirt or a veil. We are going to a club for Happy Hour in Philly and then
onto a strip club around 11:00 that night. BUT, we need some sort of theme and
some way to make her stand out without making her look 'cheesy'!!
HELP!!!
The Party Girl's advice is:
What about Flappers. You can find
feather boas in all the kids toy stores and craft stores. Headbands with a
feather coming out. Fun clothes and sexy shoes. check it out.
"Dawnyell Gallien" asked:
Occasion: Party theme
Hello there Party Girl, My husband and I are looking to throw a theme
party this year and we'd like to use the fact he's from Louisiana and Cajun. Do
you have any suggestions? Dawnyell :)
The Party Girl's advice is:
Off the top of my head, I'm thinking
Mardi Gras with costumes, glitter, glitz, the whole thing. the food from that
area is great and easy to make. Have a contest for the most original mask.
Hala asked:
Occasion: house party/divorce party
what kinds of food would I serve and what kind of decorating things can I get. I
already have a party sign and want some balloons.
The Party Girl's advice is:
Copy pictures of the couple and
jaggedly cut him out. Paste these on a board and leave room for the guests to
write comments with magic marker. find a smiling picture of yourself and find
a bakery that scans in pics and puts them on top of the cake. Hang pictures,
of all the things you can do without another person, from helium balloons in
many colors to show diversity. Make a large poster with the word FREEDOM
vertically and have the guests fill in all the words for each letter (i.e.
F=fulfilling, E=enough, etc.)
Catherine asked:
Occasion: Memorial Day
I need some ideas for a different theme. I have checked all your pages, and
although you have some great ideas, nothing has really caught my eye. Also, I
would rather have more money to spend on drinks and food then on decorations.
Could you suggest something?
The Party Girl's advice is:
Why not have an "Anything Can
Happen" party. Give each guest an assignment as to what to bring in the
way of entertainment and the supplies to go with it. It might be the Pass the
Orange Game or a Limbo game or anything they want. They shouldn't tell anyone
but you. that takes care of entertainment. You can schedule the games in any
order you want. Decorations - check www.oriental.com for inexpensive stuff in
quantity and see if they have anything that grabs you. Build the food, etc.
around the decorations.
Natalie asked:
Occasion: Going away Party
HI, I would like to do a going away party for a good friend. She is moving in
the Caribbean. I don't have a big budget and I will only
The Party Girl's advice is:
Even though you didn't finish your
message, try www.oriental.com for party stuff that isn't expensive, also the
dollar stores. Also, a group picture of all of you would be nice.
jenny hannan asked:
Occasion: none!
we want to just have a beginning of summer/end of school (college)
party..(that already tells you our price range - cheap!) is there a way we
could decorate the house for a rocking party atmosphere that doesn't cost a
lot?
The Party Girl's advice is:
Well, there's always the Star Wars
thing that's happening. Have a "Happy Days" party like the TV show.
Dress like the kids did, poodle skirts, pony tails, leather jackets, etc. use a
soda shop theme and make a juke box from a large carton. Play lots of the
music of the times.
Rochelle Brody asked:
Occasion: Bachelorette party
I would like to plan a bachelorette party. Could you please give me some tips
on games, party favors and some possible themes? Thank you for your time.
The Party Girl's advice is:
The theme could be anything raunchy or
nice. Check at party411.com/themes for some ideas. Once you decide on the
theme, check www.oriental.com for decorations and favors or at your nearest
dollar store or, if appropriate, "themes for lovers" store. Check at
party411.com/gameguide for some game suggestions. Add some original ones like
a questionnaire for the guests to fill out with no names and funny questions
like, how old were you at your first kiss, your first home run, was it the
same time?
Shirl asked:
Occasion: bachlorette party
I need to know how to make a penis cake please help
The Party Girl's advice is:
Two ways (well actually 3 but the last
one is disgusting). First make a large sheet cake and either draw one on with
colored icing or cut one out and decorate. Or, go to a store that sells
fantasy stuff or a Spencer gifts and buy a vibrator and put it on the cake and
decorate around it.
Holly Olson asked:
Occasion: Military Officer's Spouse's Club Meeting
Each month in our group, a different spouse will host the meeting. This month
it is my turn. I am planning a Fiesta Party and want the women in my group to
have a really good time. I also want them to take something home that they can
keep as a memory of the party, as possibly even a piņata stuffer. Do you have
any ideas on great fiesta party favors that may even possibly fit into a piņata? E-Mail = wolson@enid.com Occasion = Military Officer's Spouse's
Club Meeting Date = 05/26/99 City = Other Place = My Home Theme = Fiesta Ages
= 20's to 30's Decor_Budget = Dress = casual Comments = Each month in our

memory of the party, as possibly even a pinata stuffer. Do you have any ideas
on great fiesta party favors that may even possibly fit into a piņata?
The Party Girl's advice is:
Usually piņata's are filled with candy
but they don't have to be. You just don't want something too heavy. Look at
www.oriental.com for some interesting stuff. Maybe little Mexican dolls or
little burros or non-edible peppers.
sandy from calgary asked:
Occasion: themed children's fashion show
I would like to have the theme revolve around the restaurant ambiance as it is
an old house with many rooms and is supposedly "haunted". I was
thinking of having the fashion show planners have names like "Red
Buttons", Patty Pattern, Madame Couture, etc. and have these people as
the suspects in the murder. The young girls who are models may carry some
clues to the murder as their accessories or props. Or, I could have a mystery box at every table with some gathered evidence. I'm not sure how to go about
writing the mystery and what appropriate decorations, etc. I could use. Thank
you so much for your time. Running out of time for inspiration to hit me.
The Party Girl's advice is:
Use the game of Clue - everyone knows
that and the characters and stuff is already explained. Make the mystery
simple. Someone dies and the guests have to figure out who did it, how, and
where. Start from the end and work backwards (i.e. pick the murder, then his
reason, etc.) If you want to be funny, have the "Butler" do it. The
story is not the important thing, make it funny and use the play on words ides
(i.e. Col. Mustard is a jar of French's mustard).
Jeanne Heath" asked:
Occasion: party idea
Do you have any information on planning an adoption party? I'm looking for any
ideas/suggestions - it is for a 7 year old girl. Thanks!
The Party Girl's advice is:
Well, you obviously don't want to use
the infant theme and probably don't have any memorabilia so let's see. Is this
party for kids or adults? does she speak English? Day or night? Need to know
more about the situation to make suggestions. Are you going to invite her
future teacher and classmates? Stuff like that. You don't want it too
overwhelming for her. Everything will be so new.
Nicki asked:
Occasion: An end of the year party
I need help on how to decorate my party, and where to get the stuff. thanx a
lot
The Party Girl's advice is:
First of all, check party411.com/themes
for some details. Next check at www.oriental.com for stuff you can order -
also check the dollar stores. Buy or borrow a couple of kiddie pools and get
beach balls and a volleyball net.
Holly Olson asked:

gifts that would work.
Linda asked:
Occasion: fundraiser
limited-want to draw people in -entertaining-but we want to raise money Dress
= casual. Can you give me suggestions on a fifties theme party from
food to decorations. Thanks.
The Party Girl's advice is:
Think "Happy Days". Watch old
reruns for ideas. Besides burgers, fries and shakes, meatloaf and mashed
potatoes was big. Blow up pictures of 33's and 45's and remember ponytails,
poodle skirts, oxford cloths button down shirts, black motorcycle jackets,
convertibles American Graffiti.
Melissa asked:
Occasion: Just to get together
A lot of my friends have went away for college & we semi-keep in touch. I
want to plan a party for approximately 6 of my friends to attend, where under
a tent in my mothers' garden, I will serve deserts...and we will enjoy a
relaxed afternoon (4:30 p.m.). Do you have any suggestions for a SPRING/SUMMER
setting, that will not be too costly?? Also, I would like for my guests to
wear a SUN-HAT. How should I go about writing that on invitations?? Thanks So
Much, Melissa Holt, Flomaton, AL
The Party Girl's advice is:
Why not have a "Pool" party
with an inflatable pool (they come in all sizes) and have everyone dress to
swim and catch rays. Tell them to wear the hat with their outfits. Get those
bottle of bubbles with the wands (always fun) maybe a hula hoop. a boom box
with favorite tapes, little umbrellas for the drinks. Find funny sunglasses
for your guests. check at www.oriental.com for some inexpensive stuff.
Stacy McGrory asked:
Occasion: Sweet Sixteen
I need an idea for my daughters sweet 16 party. I need to know what we should
have as a theme, centerpieces for the tables, and stuff to hand out to our
guest. the color of the room were in is a dark mint green, so what colors
could we use to offset that color.
The Party Girl's advice is:
First of all, check out
party411.com/themes and party411.com/gameguide for some ideas. I can see a
luau/beach/Hawaiian type party. check out www.oriental.com for decorations and
favors. Remember with this theme, limbo, ukes, leis, etc. Also, gather pics of
her at different ages and blow them up to poster size and hang around the
room.
Katie L asked:
Occasion: good-bye party
My friend is moving away and I would like to give her a good-bye party. Do you
have any theme ideas that would be good for this occasion? please write back ASAP! P.S- she's moving to Texas thank you, Katie
The Party Girl's advice is:
check out party411.com/themes for some
ideas, especially the bat mitzvah section (right age group). Collect all the
pics you can of her at different ages and at different times and have her
friends write stories of fun times together and put copies of the pics and the
stories in an album for her to keep.
carolyn perlow asked:
Occasion: golf tournament
any interesting themes for a couple guest day golf tournament
The Party Girl's advice is:
Since there are 18 holes, why not have
a different food station every couple of holes. Each could be a different
country with food to match. then after the round of golf, have an "Around
the world party with foods not already used and various beverages. Each table
could have a centerpiece from a different country. Check outwww.oriental.com
for stuff to order and don't forget the ethnic neighborhoods themselves.
allison lena b. asked:
Occasion: party
I'm in much agony! I live in a rich town but I'm poor I want to have as good a
party as my friends had. I have the place a video guy and a caterer. my mom
can't do a theme. I want a lilac or lavender dress that is ranged as $60-$100
but I want it to be elegant. I need a dj, a theme, invitations ,and a good
party giveaway for my friends I want to have wax hands made for them but it is
so much money !!!!!!!! please help!
The Party Girl's advice is:
It's not the amount of money you spend
but how different your party is. First of all, check out party411.themes and
gameguide for ideas. Look at www.oriental.com for stuff for the party at a low
cost. Also check out the dollar stores. Maybe you could go with a little kid
theme where everyone dresses like a 5 yr. old, plays little kid games like
duck, duck, goose and use a lot of balloons. You could have all the kids give
you a pic of themselves when they were that age and have them blown up poster
size and let the other guests guess who is who and use them as decorations.
Let the guests have them at the end of the party.
Heather Andrews asked:
Occasion: sorority event
This year I'm in charge of deciding what events to do for my sororities rush
weeks. I have a couple ideas for two of the days, but I need some more ideas.
My budget isn't that big, but I'd like to do something fun at the house that
will be enjoyable for the girls in the sorority and the girls that are coming
to check us out. The event would be at night. Any suggestions?
The Party Girl's advice is:
Why not a pajama party like you used to
do in Jr. high. flannel pjs, sleeping bags, popcorn, flashlights, ghost
stories.
David asked:
Occasion: Birthday
Where can I get a large Bow 2'-3' in size for a new car as a present.
The Party Girl's advice is:
Go to a fabric store such as Jo-Ann
Fabrics
Julia asked:
Occasion: Party
I'd like to know if you can give me some ideas on party games or activities
which I can organize without needing a lot of fancy equipment and which the
people in the above age-group would want o play. Do you have any
suggestions on how to get the guests into a brilliant mood and avoid boredom??
Please help me!!
The Party Girl's advice is:
Check out party411.com/gameguide for
some suggestions.
Tiffany Dodgshon asked:
Occasion: staggette
I am basically just looking for some ideas for everyone to have a good time.
We plan to have dinner, go to a pub, and then maybe a little male exotic
entertainment. I would like to do something memorable for her, and I am having
a hard time finding anything relating to this event on any website. You ideas
would be greatly appreciated. I am only sorry I cannot offer you any real
business at this time.
The Party Girl's advice is:
Well, it sounds like you have all the
regular bases covered. I bet she expects all of what you mentioned to happen.
How about having a stripper show up at dinner. that would be a surprise.
Nellie asked:
Occasion: career
I've realized that my true calling is to become a party planner - -I even used
to have my own small catering business when I first graduated from college.
Now I am 30 and desperate to get into the business - -any advice?
The Party Girl's advice is:
Find someone who is already successful
and work for them for a while to really learn what it takes. There's a big
difference between catering and party planning. Good luck!
Deby Tomky asked:
Occasion: Food
HI PARTY GIRL, JUST WONDERING IF YOU CAN GIVE ME ANY TIPS ON A
SUCCESSFUL PARTY FOR THE THEME OF MY PARTY. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THERE IS A
SITE TO GO TO FOR HAWAIIAN DISHES(FOOD)TO SERVE. ANY IDEA'S YOU MAY HAVE TO GET
ME STARTED WOULD BE VERY APPRECIATED. THANKS SO MUCH, DEBY
The Party Girl's advice is:
One of my favorite things is to make
watermelon baskets and fill them with melon balls and strawberries and kiwi.
Also works with pineapples. Cocoanut is a big Hawaiian staple. Luaus
traditionally have a roasted pig but you don't need to dig a pit, just do it
on the grill. The limbo is also traditional along with leis. Go to a library
and look up luaus and check out the pictures along with the dishes. Any good
cookbook has Hawaiian recipes.
Sandy Seward asked:
Occasion: Bachelorette
We are planning a girls night out party and we heard about doing a scavenger
hunt. Can you please help give us several ideas for this. It will be greatly
appreciated.
The Party Girl's advice is:
Make a list of sexy stuff that has to
do with the couple-to-be, such as if they have a favorite song, put down CD
with that song. If he has a favorite color, put down a garter belt in that
color, get as crazy as you like, the crazier the funnier. If there is a
favorite drink, put down something that relates such as color, or ingredient.
Get a limo for the evening so no one drives and drinks. Have each guest wear a
mystery piece of clothing and let the others guess which it is. You can give
clues via tape instead of written down and add crazy sounds.
Lori Lemmon asked:
Occasion: Get-together w/friends
I was wanting to have a theme party. I have no clue what it should be though.
I don't want it to be any "big" thing, just something fun like a
certain way to dress or something like that. Any Ideas. Please!
The Party Girl's advice is:
You could have a sock hop and dress
like the 50's. Watch reruns of Happy Days for dress and ideas. Or you could
have a breakfast party at night wearing PHs and serving breakfast food. Check
out partygirl411.com/themes and /gameguide for some ideas
Rosa & Megan asked:
Occasion: Just for Fun
We would like some "horney" games for some teens. Please give us
some ideas!? thanx a bunch, Rosa & Meghan!
The Party Girl's advice is:
I'm not sure what "horney"
games are. You might check www.partygirl.com/gameguide.
Stevie asked:
Occasion: Fiesta
I pretty much have the hats and lights covered. I also have the food covered,
but I don't know what kind of fun fiesta activities we could do, any suggestions?
The Party Girl's advice is:
Either buy or make a piņata and fill it
up with candy and play that game. You could also have a limbo going. You might
want to play toss the water balloons if you are using the outdoors. Also, give
everyone a Mexican name and tape it on their back and see if they can guess it
by asking the others questions.
roberta olmeda asked:
Occasion: all parties
I was hoping you could tell me how to start up my own party planning business?
My family usually comes to me for ideas, and I would like to make it a home
run business, I appreciate your help!
The Party Girl's advice is:
This can't be done overnight or easily.
First of all, you need first hand experience from all levels of planning and
executing an event. The only way to get this is to work for an existing
caterer or party planner. Only then will you really know what is involved and
how to do it.
Lynn Busby asked:
Occasion: Banquet
I am in charge of our academic awards banquet at our high school. The date is
May 3rd. As you can see, I'm short on time. I decorated for the teacher's end
of year party last year with a beach theme. I was told this is on the same
line but for teens. I have things like sand buckets, towels, etc. However, I'm
looking for a new twist? Any ideas? There will be approx. 300 in
attendance.
The Party Girl's advice is:
Check party411.com/themes for some
beach ideas. Also party411.com/gameguide. Look up www.oriental.com for stuff
and check the dollar stores. Don't forget such things as the limbo contest and
if you have the space, volleyball. If you want to have a "sand
castle" building contest, it is neater using legos.
Shelley Miller asked:
Occasion: wanting to have friends over for a
"theme" party
Need help in planning a theme party and gathering all of the necessary items.
Can you help with this? Party would actually be held in Belleville, IL.
The Party Girl's advice is:
Check party411.com/themes for some luau
and island ideas. Check www.oriental.com for stuff. Once you decide, check
your dollar stores for items.
Kathy O'Connor asked:
Occasion: Halloween Party (ADULTS)
This will be the 5th year we do this party...it's a blast every time. I make up
an original invitation each year, everyone wears their costume of choice, and
I make up a "mysterious itinerary" of where we'll make our stops.
Besides the bars, I've always picked something fun to do enroute, like going
on a haunted hayride or to the local funhouse, and I get each place we stop at
to donate a t-shirt, drink holder, or hat..... Do you think I should leave the
choice of costume open this year, as I always have, or set a theme ( for
example: come as a famous couple, all dress like the Blues Brothers, guys
dress like girls/ girls like guys, dress like your favorite person of 1999, or
of the 90's...favorite rock star) I'd be open to any of your ideas! I just
think picking a certain theme would add a little fun to it... what do you
suggest?
The Party Girl's advice is:
I like the theme idea. Why not
something to do with the year 2000. Come as something that doesn't exist now
but will in the new millennium. Or, dress for the roaring 20's (a great decade
of drinking souts you itinery) with flappers, bootleggers, etc.
Kathy O'Connor asked:
Occasion: Summer party
I've got the menu, entertainment, decor, games all arranged....found just what
I wanted for the invitations (bottles with corks, filled with a little sand,
seashells, palm tree ). Now I need to work on the invitation that I'll stick
inside! Having trouble coming up with the right wording....I thought of making
up a little poem to tell everyone how we got shipwrecked, and them ask them to
join/rescue us... What would a message in a bottle read? Also, I want everyone
to come dressed for the theme, but how would I word that? I'm having a real
mental block here! Can you help? Thanks!
The Party Girl's advice is:
Find a picture of Gilligan from
Gilligan's Island and use the beginning of the song to start your invitation.
After you give the facts (time, date, etc.) tell them as potential rescuers or
rescuees, they must dress the part.
Lorie Dumond asked:
Occasion: Luncheon
Could you provide a menu and/or party tips? The luncheon is on 5/4, for 75 -
85 teachers to celebrate Teacher Appreciation Day. Your web pages contained
various information on parties, it has been helpful for other parties I have
organized. This luncheon has been delegated to me after my co-worker
"bailed out" on planning the event. Any suggestions you have would
be very helpful to me. Thank you. Sincerely,
The Party Girl's advice is:
Plan something easy. Either go to the
local supermarket and get trays of deli, chicken salad, tuna salad, etc and
cut veggies. Or, have others bring dishes. If the lunch is in school with no
great kitchen to use, serve only food that works cold. If you have a stove,
lasagna is always good with salad and garlic bread. Have punch (Make an ice
mold out of fruit and punch) and soft drinks and ice teas. Have a cake made,
maybe in the shape of a school house or a blackboard with writing or some
theme like that. Go to the dollar store and check out all the neat stuff to
decorate the tables. Get pics of the teachers and have Kinko's blow them up and
mount them on a board. Draw halos over them and glue glitter for shine.
Ginger asked:
Occasion: Post-Prom Party
Imp having a post prom party outside on a patio behind a fancy restraint. what's
some ideas to make my post prom party different than all the others of the
night?
The Party Girl's advice is:
Is the restaurant ethnic such as
Italian or French? If so, use that as you decor and theme. Why not have a Star
Wars party. It is going to be the big thing this summer and you could be
first. Check the web for stuff. Also check party411.com/themes for other ideas
Kimberly Howes asked:
Occasion: Cruise
My mom and dad will be going on another cruise in February. They would like to
have a party so that everyone can meet each other before then. My mom asked
for me to look on the internet for some party ideas. I read your
"Luau" and "Club Med" themed parties and got some good
ideas but do you have any others more for a cruise ship theme. Thank
you.
The Party Girl's advice is:
Unless everyone has a great sense of
humor, forget a "titanic" theme. How about just a fish theme and/or
a nautical theme using water stuff. Look at www.oriental.com for some ideas
also.
Vera asked:
Occasion: Mother-daughter banquet
what kind of center piece can we make that reflect 1910? Thanks
The Party Girl's advice is:
Check at the library or on the web for
the headlines during that year. If something big was invented or happened, use
that. Maybe the dress of that decade with a picture of a woman dressed for the
period blown up.
