Jenny asked:
Occasion:
I am wearing long gloves to my Prom, and I have never worn gloves before. What
is proper etiquette for wearing gloves? When should they be taken off, and when
can I keep them on? Thanks.
The Party Girl's advice is:
You can keep them on for as long as you
can stand it. Never wear just one, it's 2 or nothing. Put them in your purse
or see if your date can fold them into his pocket.
Cindy Mitchell asked:
Occasion: Mother's Day Party
I am planning the above. I am a Mother myself with 2 boys so I want to enjoy
the day.. In attendance will be my parents, my spouse's mother, sister and her
family, my sister, her husband (who incidentally has a sister who married my
brother). So what I am saying is a Brother & Sister married Sister &
Brother in case you were confused. All will be bringing their teenage
children. Because we are close to my sister and brother's in-laws, they will be
coming too. Last year I hosted Mother's Day. It turned out to be a disaster (I
will attach the little story about this day that I plan on sending to Readers
Digest) It is funny. Now here is where you come in. I am a themey kind
of person who is very particular with presentation. One of the things I plan
on making is Maryland Crab soup with biscuits shaped like crabs, lighthouses,
seashells and fish. I thought that would be cute. So I guess I should go with
a seafood kind of theme. I would also like to play some games that aren't too
childish, but not just for adults either. Can you suggest anything for the
games and well as the menu? The games don't have to based on a seafood theme.
Thanks Also here is what happened last year: THIS WILL
MAKE YOU LAUGH, BUT I AM STILL VERY UPSET. I HAD EVERYBODY (EVEN
SOME PEOPLE WHO HAVE NEVER BEEN THERE BEFORE) OVER MY HOUSE FOR
MOTHERS DAY AND....WELL HERE IT GOES. 1) DAVID'S
SISTER SAID WE HAD TO TAKE HIS MOM FOR THE WEEKEND BECAUSE SHE WAS
GOING TO A LATE WEDDING ON SATURDAY. (FOUND OUT THIS ON THURSDAY AND HIS
MOTHER IS HANDICAPPED SO IT VERY EXHAUSTING AND TIME CONSUMING TAKING CARE OF
HER) 2) DAVID (MY HUSBAND) GOT CALLED INTO WORK EARLY
SUNDAY (YOU KNOW THE DAY OF THE EVENT) MORNING AND DIDN'T GET HOME
UNTIL AFTER THE PARTY STARTED. 3) MY NEIGHBOR LINDA
CAME OVER AT 1:00 (EVEN THOUGH SHE WAS TOLD BETWEEN 2:30 AND 3:00)
WITH HER BRATTY 3 YEAR KID WHO TORE MY HOUSE APART AND TOOK
BITES OF COOKIES THAT I HAD NEATLY ARRANGED AND IN ORDER AND
THEN PUT THEM BACK. (I WANTED TO PUT HIM IN A POT AND MAKE SOUP
OUT OF HIM) 4) GUEST STARTING ARRIVING WHILE I WAS
STILL IN MY NIGHTSHIRT AND MY MOTHER-IN-LAW WAS AT THE
DINING ROOM TABLE STILL IN HER PJ'S. I SENT HER AN APOLOGY
CARD IN THE MAIL YESTERDAY!!!!! 5) DAVID BOUGHT ME A
ROTISSERIE TO PUT ON MY GRILL SO THAT I COULD COOK THE ROAST THAT
I HAD BOUGHT THAT WOULD FEED 30 PEOPLE.. AFTER JABBING THE SIDE OF
BEEF FOR 30 MINUTES IT TURNED OUT TO BE TOO WIDE FOR THE GRILL. I
HAD TO TAKE IT OFF AND CUT IT IN HALF. I PUT 1/2 ON THE
GRILL AND WRAPPED THE OTHER IN ALUMINUM FOIL AND PUT IN OVEN
CAUSE I WAS RUNNING OUT OF TIME. WELL THE ONE ON THE
GRILL CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE OUTSIDE OF THE BEEF WAS AS BLACK
AS THE ACE OF SPADES AND THE INSIDE WAS AS RED AS THE KING OF
HEARTS!!!!. THE ONE IN THE OVEN....WELL ALL OF THE JUICES CAME OUT OF
THE FOIL AND ONTO THE BOTTOM OF THE OVEN. THE APPLE AIR FRESHER
SPRAY DIDN'T HELP THE SMELL ANY 6) I MADE
A CRAB POT FULL OF CRAB SOUP.....WELL IT BURNED AT THE BOTTOM AND
THE WHOLE POT HAD THE BURNED TASTE. I HAD TO LEAVE MY
MOTHER-IN-LAW ALONE TO GO AND GET INGREDIENTS TO MAKE ANOTHER POT
OF SOUP. 7) I CUSSED AT MY MOTHER AS SOON AS SHE
WALKED IN MY DOOR. SHE SAID "WELL HAPPY MOTHERS DAY TO YOU
TOO". NEEDLESS TO SAY I ALSO SENT HER AN APOLOGY CARD
TOO!!!!!! (AFRAID I WOULD GET KNOCKED OUT OF THE WILL OR
SOMETHING) 8) MADE ITALIAN SAUSAGES ON THE
GRILL......WELL THEY CAUGHT ON FIRE TOO AND LOOKED LIKE THEY WERE
THE LITTLE SIBLINGS TO THE ROAST. 9) BOUGHT A HUGE
THING OF COCKTAIL TOOTHPICKS AT THE PRICE CLUB. DROPPED ALL OF
THEM ON MY KITCHEN FLOOR.... AND I USED TO LIKE PLAYING "PICK
UP STICKS"....WELL NO MORE 10) I MADE THIS LEMON
TORTE AND IT WAS SITTING ON THE DINING ROOM TABLE WITH A
SPATULA UNDER ONE OF THE PIECES......WELL MY SISTER-IN-LAW WENT
TO GIVE THE DOG A PIECE OF MEAT AND HER ELBOW HIT THE SPATULA
AND......WELL LEMON TORTE DOES NOT MATCH MY DECOR IN MY DINING
ROOM. 11) I WENT TO LIGHT ALL OF THE CANDLES IN THE
HOUSE AND CAUGHT MY FINGERNAIL ON FIRE. IT LOOKED LIKE THAT I LOVE
LUCY SHOW WHERE SHE CATCHES HER NOSE ON
FIRE. 12). ONE OF MY CANDLES DRIPPED OUT OF THE HOLDER
ON MY TABLE AND ON MY LIVING ROOM
CARPET. 13) MY NEIGHBOR LINDA'S HUGE PUPPY GOT
LOOSE AND SOMEONE LEFT MY SLIDING DOOR OPEN INTO MY
HOUSE.....WELL HIS MUDDY PAWS DIDN'T LOOK SO NICE AND HIS WAGGING
TAIL ON MY COCKTAIL TABLES DIDN'T GO OVER SO BIG EITHER. HE IS
GOING IN THE SOUP POT WITH HER BRATTY
KID. OTHER THAN THESE MINOR LITTLE THINGS, I
ALSO HAD A STOMACH ACHE FOR 2 DAYS AND COULD NOT STOP GOING
TO THE BATHROOM AND IT RAINED (IT WAS SUPPOSE TO BE A
COOKOUT) TODAY MY DISHWASHER LEAKED AND RUINED MY
CEILING DOWNSTAIRS. I WONDER WHY THIS COULDN'T OF HAPPENED
DURING THE PARTY SO I COULD HAVE ADDED IT TO THE
LIST. OH WELL.....STILL COPING.
The Party Girl's advice is:
First of all, check out
party411.com/gameguide for some ideas. Secondly, go to www.oriental.com on the
web for some inexpensive and interesting things to go with the party. Thirdly,
take a picture of a fish to a Kinko's or some place like that and have it blown
up to people size with the face cut out and mount on foam core. Take pics of
the guests looking thru it. Later use it to toss water balloons thru. Have
prizes. Hope this helps
Robyn asked:
Occasion: after prom
Any suggestions for a post prom party?
The Party Girl's advice is:
Try party411.com/themes for some
suggestions. Also party411.com/gameguide
Name = Christine asked:
Occasion: Annual Banquet
Our gymnastics club is planning our annual banquet. I am in charge of the
decorations. The banquet will be held in a restaurant with about 100 - 150
people. Do you have any ideas for table decorations/centerpieces. We were
doing the colors in gold, black and silver. One thought was to decorate each
table with a different theme, movie, etc. Any ideas would be helpful.
The Party Girl's advice is:
You might try to make the different
apparatus for the table centerpieces, i.e. horse, parallel bars, etc. and put
action figures on them doing the sport. Use balloons and confetti and penny
candy to make it festive. Or, you could use barbells as the main part and the
other stuff with that.
Lesli & Ed asked:
Occasion: party themes
I am coordinating the 6th grade luncheon at my daughter's school. This is the
last year at this school before these 6th graders move on to jr high. I need a
theme for a end of the year party or some type of party. They do not have a
6th grade graduation so I can't use graduation items. Please help me. I don't
have a clue. The luncheon will be in the school lunchroom with about 90 sixth
graders attending. Let me know ASAP so I can start making plans. Oh yea, the
entertainment is going to be karaoke. Thanks, Lesli
The Party Girl's advice is:
First of all, check party411.com/themes
for some ideas. Utilize the dollar stores for decorations etc. If you're still
stuck, write back.
Jennifer asked:
Occasion: Backstreet Boys Fan Convention
We are planning a Backstreet Boy party for all their fans. And we need some
ideas.....any if you have some. Thanks a bunch, jennifer
The Party Girl's advice is:
When you say all their fans, do you
mean "all their fans in Chicago or just say in your school? For some
theme ideas (other than Boys, of course) check out party411.com/themes.
Posters of them are obvious, CDs and tapes. Go to the web and see if they have
a site to get stuff.
Josie Fernandez asked:
Occasion: PICNIC SET-UP
COULD YOU E-MAIL ME SOME IDEAS TO DECORATE TABLES AND A ROOM . OUR THEME IS
PICNIC THANKS JOSIE FERNANDEZ
The Party Girl's advice is:
Think color scheme, usually red and
white checked. Find paper cloths or buy fabric and use as table cloths.
Alternate red and white napkins. Centerpieces could be red and white helium
balloons attached to a plate of fake food such as hot dogs, hamburgers, soda,
etc. You can find these either at a dollar store or try oriental.com on the
internet for items. Find pictures of ants and have Kinko's blow them up and use
these as decorations. Streamers with balloons are good. Different picnic
baskets are good decorations. Get some dried corn stalks to prop up and
watermelons. Use your imagination and have a ball
Krystle asked:
Occasion: 14th Birthday sleep over
I wrote the other day but you sent me something not telling me anything...I
was wondering if you had any ideas 13 and 14 year old who are really mature
for their age and want no theme sleepover!?! I kinda liked the make-up party
but I need more ideas and the cost of having a cosmetician come to my house to
do this. Also I need some advise about what to do for my mothers 40 birthday
and my parents 10th wedding anniversary. Thank u
The Party Girl's advice is:
You would need to call the beauty shops
in your area to find the cost of a cosmetologist. You might try the various
counters at the department stores. They might have reps who do that sort of
thing. Or you could have your party at the mall and visit one of the cosmetic
counters and get makeovers. About your mom's birthday, all moms love stuff
that has been given a lot of thought, not necessarily a lot of money. One of my
best gifts from my kids was a day at a spa. Something I wouldn't do for
myself. Loved it. For your parents anniversary, why not a gift certificate at
a special restaurant. Call ahead and order a special dessert for them or
special drinks. That would be very romantic
Melanie Theriot asked:
Occasion: Bachlorette Party
Need Game ideas???
The Party Girl's advice is:
try party411.gameguide
Kim asked:
Occasion: for fun
I had written you earlier, and forgot to ask about party favors and door
prizes for adults. For my Luau party.
The Party Girl's advice is:
Try oriental.com for lots of great
stuff
Jennifer Kaminskas asked:
Occasion: Bachelorette party
What type of party would be appropriate for a pregnant 21 year old bride? I
want it to be a great bachelorette party!
The Party Girl's advice is:
No drinking for one thing, at least the
bride-to-be. Seems to me that maybe a baby shower might be appropriate.
Patricia asked:
Occasion: manners
Sorry, but the response, "I'll get back to you on that" is not a
response. Do you Mexican/fiesta things or not?
The Party Girl's advice is:
I just re-read your response. The
consensus here for entertainment is to stick a Mexican tortilla up your ass.
Your manners are atrocious.
Bridal Shower asked:

PATRICIA HELMS asked:
Occasion: party
Sorry, but the response, "I'll get back to you on that" is not a
response. Do you Mexican/fiesta things or not? Tricia Helms
The Party Girl's advice is:
Yes we do. Try the Oriental Trading co.
at oriental.com. They have lots of Mexican/fiesta stuff.
pam asked:
Occasion: Help!
I've drawn "The Titanic" as the theme for my table at a dinner
theatre. I'm responsible for table decorations and getting the guests at my
table to come in costume. Any suggestions? Pam McMahan
The Party Girl's advice is:
Decor could be as easy as a big Styrofoam
iceberg with the bow of a ship on its end (going down). Costumes are
period pieces. Check out the movie again. Most of the women will like this and
have them nag the men.
PATRICIA HELMS asked:
Occasion: Fiesta party
I am interested in ordering some things for a fiesta party. Can you e-mail me
an order form or tell me where to go on your sight to see the actual items and
how much they cost?
The Party Girl's advice is:
I will get in touch with you with that
info.
Barb Hyde asked:
Occasion: Dinner party
I'm having a dinner party with 2 other Adult married couples besides myself
and my husband (age 50) who are close friends and I need a theme. The party
will be in June and could be a pool party outdoors as we live in Arizona. It
doesn't have to be outside. I am having trouble coming up with a menu and a
theme. Can you help?
The Party Girl's advice is:
Let's start with the theme and build
from there. Check the party411.com/themes.html site for possible suggestions.
If you don't find anything you like, write back and tell me a little about the
people coming or your likes. We'll get it.
Marjorie P asked:
Occasion: party
ok, here's the whole mess on this party my friend is throwing. He's having a
DJ from 6 to 10. He has a man made pond for swimming, renting a bounce house,
having hay rides, and security is set up........ We are having trouble of
thinking of other things to do at 10 when the DJ leaves or when he is there.
It is called palace fest.........Do you have any ideas?????
Sincerely Ashley of WI....
The Party Girl's advice is:
You didn't say how old the party is so
it's hard to make suggestions.
SHELL asked:
Occasion: Garden Party
I have a question. My best friend is getting married, and the reception will
be outside at her grandfather's house. I liked the ideas for the garden party
you have on this site, but I was wondering if there were any ideas on how to
adapt it to fit a wedding and/or a wedding shower. Any information on this
would be appreciated.
The Party Girl's advice is:
Add those large paper bells, wedding
rings, pictures of the couple (to make it personal), cupids, stuff like that.
Just think love
Louise Bohn asked:
Occasion: Heaven and Hell
We (4 students) are having a heaven and hell party dress is angelic/devilish
and the two main party rooms are going to be heaven and hell respectively. The
invites are pretty cool with lots of devils and angels! We tend to go to town
on the decoration so any ideas would be welcome and we'll let you know
exactly how it turned out Cheers Louise
The Party Girl's advice is:
Just thought of something, if you need
help finding stuff, find the Oriental Trader on the web.
Vicki asked:
Occasion: LUAU PARTY
Hello, I would like some additional information on various types of
activities that are done at a Luau and also what types of foods are served or
substitutions of food that can be served instead of Hawaiian food. Thank you
for your help. Vicki
The Party Girl's advice is:
Food, lots of pineapple and other
fruit. Use the pineapple hulls as boats and bill with fruit. Also use
watermelons scooped out as serving bowls. Usually anything on skewers such as
chicken, veggies, etc. and grilled and rice on the side. have little umbrellas
for beverages and plenty of beer. find some plantains (certain kind of bananas
and peel, slice, fry and salt. You can buy them already made in some stores.
If you really want to get carried away, roast a whole pig. I don't know how to
do this but I know you first have to dig a pit. As far as activities, the
limbo is a must. Then just have fun playing games like you did as a kid like
pass the orange (from neck to neck) and pin the tail and hide and seek.
Aubrey Reavis asked:
Occasion: Party Ideas needed.
Hi! I was wondering if you could help me on a theme and maybe some ideas
for my 16th birthday party. I was thinking it would be fun to have it at the
beach because it's May 11th and I'm in California. I have to have a proposal
to my step dad by this Friday about my ideas for the party!!!! Please help! I
am open to any place for the party although....:-) Thanks. If you can
get back to me in time that would be greatly appreciated.... Thank you ,
Aubrey
The Party Girl's advice is:
Why not a luau-Beach Boys party?
Whether you do it at the beach or in the back yard. The dollar stores have
leis, miniature ukes, borrow or buy Beach Boy music, do the limbo, have a pass
the orange contest (neck to neck), that sort of thing. Give prizes for the
winners.
STEVE LANGFORD asked:
Occasion: kids parties
I am looking for ideas for an outdoor party. There will be about 30 children
& 30 adults. The ages are 1-12 with mostly around 7 & 9 both boys
& girls. I need ideas for serving dinner, games, party favors &
decorations. I do most all the work myself and plan on spending about 1 week
getting ready. I don't know how to tell you how much I plan on spending because
I do most of the work. Thanx
The Party Girl's advice is:
First pick a theme. Are you the party
planner or the host? Makes a difference. Let me know
The Andersens asked:
Occasion: theme ideas
My family and I are participating for the second year in the American Cancer
Society's Relay for Life. We are planning on our theme being "Racing to a
Cure" Do you have any products that would go along with our theme? Thank
you!
The Party Girl's advice is:
I'll look and contact you shortly.
Jenny asked:
Occasion: before the end of the year party for 8th grade
I need some ideas on what to do, how to get guys to come, and what to
do.
The Party Girl's advice is:
You can get the guys to come by asking
the most popular one to help you plan the party. As for themes, check out
party411.com/themes.html or write back. Don't forget to ask the guy.
Debbie asked:
Occasion: kids parties
I need ideas for a child party outside in the summer. About 30 kids and
30 adults will be here. I need something that we can have for dinner
games decorations & favors. Thanks Debbie Langford
The Party Girl's advice is:
How old are the kids? Makes a
difference. The older, the more structured you can be. Write back and let me
know. Lots of ideas
sm asked:
Occasion: reunion
Hi, I'm helping plan a reunion for a small Catholic Grammar School in Syracuse
NY. It is an all alumni reunion for graduating classes from 1956-1990. The
School was K-8th grade. It is Scheduled for June of this year. Do you have any
theme or decorating ideas. We will be holding it in the school gym, and money
is tight. We have a DJ scheduled, and will be serving All-American cuisine, i.e.; ziti, chicken, potatoes. We may be using
card tables. Any ideas for center
pieces, decorations, name tags would be appreciated.
The Party Girl's advice is:
Did you have any yearbook? If so, copy
the pics of the graduating classes at a Kinko's and mount them on foam core and
use as decorations, centerpieces, etc. Ask the attendees to send pics of
themselves when they were in school and glue these to self-adhesive, peel off
labels and write their names on them for name tags. Glitter and balloons are
very reasonable and find some dollar store to fill in the rest
Hope Wheeler asked:
Occasion: Mom's Night Out
The ladies in my neighborhood get together once a month at 7:00 on
a Friday night at someone's house. Any ideas? In the past we have played
Bunco, brought wedding albums, and just talked.
The Party Girl's advice is:
Why not go out to dinner instead? Call
it "Girls Night Out" and pick a different restaurant with a
different type of menu (i.e. Italian, Mexican, ribs, etc.) My friends and I do
this the first Tuesday of every month and laugh all night.
Patricia DiNarda asked:
Occasion: Christening Party
Need a Theme, food (Buffet style ) Lawn Party with Tent, tables
and Chairs. Ideas for table decorations. Activates will be Bocce Ball,
Basketball and social conversation. thank you
The Party Girl's advice is:
Why not go with a crochet theme with
wickets and crochet balls and mallets.. Or if you live in a city with an NBA
team, use team basketball and basketball wrapped candies.
maritza bermudez asked:
Occasion: Party ideas
To whom it may concern: I am planning a scholarship banquet for my
sorority and need a good theme (preferably academic oriented) and title. I
have been combing the internet sites for ideas but nothing fits my particular
party. Can you please help me? Thank you for your assistance.
Respectively, Maritza Barrera
The Party Girl's advice is:
Have you tried
party411.com/themes.html? Maybe you could use a "Jeopardy" theme like
the TV show. Doesn't get more academic than that.
Illysa asked:
Occasion: attire
Is it appropriate to wear a pant suit to formal affair. (Ivory color double
breasted elegant suite with gold and ivory buttons. Worn with a gold camisole
and gold beaded shoes.
The Party Girl's advice is:
Sounds good to me. Don't forget gold
jewelry.
Jones family asked:
Occasion: HELP
I want to have a hippie party! I cant find anything on the net for
ideas.......I need these pretty fast! Please help Id appreciate it! thanx
Hannah
The Party Girl's advice is:
think Jerry Garcia and the Grateful
Dead - tied-dye, long hair, afros, granny glasses, gauzy tops, jeans, sandals
etc for clothes. Get a list of music popular in the 60's, there were a million
great ones. See if you can find a turntable and old 33's if possible. Everyone
can bring pipes, bongs (unloaded), and other drug type paraphernalia. Psycodelic
stuff is still available all over. Use peace signs and slogans like
"Make Love Not War". There's tons of material on the net - just look
in the right places.
Dennis V. DiNarda asked:
Occasion: Christening
Planning a Christening Party for a newly Baptized Christian Baby Do you
have any ideas for such and event. 150 FAMILY MEMBERS WILL BE
PRESENT. Lawn party in Sept. 1999 Patricia Murphy DiNarda
The Party Girl's advice is:
Do you want a theme for the adults or a
traditional type party. What are the times, is there a meal involved or just
finger stuff? Need details
luckyred asked:
Occasion: 5th grade Banquet
Help in charge of 5th Grade Banquet for about 150 kids. We have sort of
decided on a "Sail into the Future" theme with maybe using the
Sailing wheel of internet icon/technology type theme. Everyone kind of like
the Nautical aspect but it was not dressing enough -- maybe Dress Blue, Gold,
and white like the NAVY -- as in Sailing - would be more formal. Would love
your input. Thanks. Banquet is May 17,99. Linda
The Party Girl's advice is:
The teachers wear blue blazers and the
kids wear navy and white. make sashes of gold or yellow ribbon for different
"crew members" such as Captain, First Mate, etc. Each child could
receive special gold buttons as prizes. Get them at notions store. Have games,
riddles, questions regarding the future (what will life be like) and other
such activities.

Occasion: HELP
Your site is GREAT!! But I am in China and some of the simplest things
to get in States are impossible here. My company is an exclusive club,
where we have to organize members' even every month. We wanted to do
Latino dinner & dance, but we could not find a live band. We thought we
will be cheating on our guests (all very high profile) if we provide them with
recorded music. Any great ways to get around it? Else we may do a
60's party. A great deal of our members are American and from that era! But I
have totally new in this and China is of course not the best place to source
for great funky ideas. So pleaseee help. Look forward to hearing from
you.
The Party Girl's advice is:
I am referring you to someone who may
have some great answers with your logistical problems.
