A Rockin' Halloween Party

How many dead rock stars do you know? Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Croce, Buddy Holley, The Big Bopper, Duane Allman, Freddie Mercury, Mamma Cass, Jayne Mansfield and Marilyn (all right, so they weren't rock stars but they would have been if they could have been), Jim Morrison, John Belushi (a dead Blues Brother, no?), Kurt Cobain, what about those guys from the Ramones?

What could be more fun then getting in your Rock Star Halloween costume and having a rock and roll party? (besides sex, drugs, and rock n' roll that is...)

Dead Rock Star Halloween Invitations

    Come dressed as your favorite dead Rock Star

As always, Party411 can create a fab caricature with you as a ghoulish rock star (you pick who). Ask your friends to dress the part no matter what the invitation says.

Dead Rock Star Halloween Decorations and Party Supplies

Since your guest will be expecting a party worthy of their celebrity status, their entrance should be all about hype and flash. Roll out the red carpet for your guests (literally), from the front entryway, down the sidewalk. If you can, rent a "velvet rope" to place at the doorway. You know, the kind outside of exclusive clubs that keep out the riffraff. Set the mood with black lights. In addition, string skull and tombstone lights everywhere. 

Use tombstones at your entryway. You can customize them by using real data on dead rock stars. A body bag or two is a fitting decoration, you can even get a body bag with rattling motor, and scare the jeepers out of everyone!

A life-sized wall graphic of Elvis back from the grave is perfect on any empty wall you have, or place it behind the buffet or bar. Use it as a photo op for guests.  Everyone will love having their picture taken with the King. Combine it with a  6' hearse wall decoration for a fantastic scene.

Local music stores are great places to fine authentic decorations. Scatter guitar picks and drumsticks (both are inexpensive) on side tables and any flat surface that need a little decoration.

Make your living room into a concert stage by setting up a strobe light and a fog machine (pyrotechnics are probably not a good idea...) Set a few inflatable guitars around, they give a new meaning to "air guitar". At least these will be hard to smash!

Halloween Table Decorations and Menu

Make sure your table is dark and has lots of attitude.  As centerpieces, use black vases with black rose bouquets. Sprinkle skeleton parts and star confetti (DEAD rock STAR, get it?) on the tables. Coffin silverware caddies are perfect to hold the black disposable cutlery.

Partying like a rock star is all about the booze, so at each place setting put a beaded shot glass necklace. Set the table with black skull and crossbones paper goods, they are rock star chic and clean up easier than a lead singer in rehab.

If you are doing a buffet, label the food with little tombstones to make your buffet stay in theme. Use your favorite stars to name the food, like Freddie Mercury's Fingers (chicken fingers) or Elvis' Pelvis (perhaps for some kind of beef dish)!

Dead Rock Star Music and Entertainment

Crank up the music! Play songs by dead artists (or bands who have a deceased member) that have some Halloween flair to them. Here are a few examples to get you started:

• Don’t Fear the Reaper – Blue Oyster Cult

Karaoke is perfect for this Halloween party. Use the songs above or other rock n' roll favorites. Or if you own (or can borrow) the video games Guitar Hero or Rock Band, set it up and let your guests rock out! A sudden death tournament with a Halloween trophy as a reward will get everybody into a rock star attitude in no time!

Dead Rock Star Halloween Costumes

Now for the most important part...what should you wear?  You have plenty of choices, but here are our favorites costumes:

• Elvis - he IS the King, and there are plenty of Elvis costumes to choose from (I especially like the Hellvis - Devil Elvis Costume)

• Rock Star Adult Woman's Costume  - your fans await!
• Rock Queen Costume - long live the Queen!
• 80's Rock God Costume  - become the rock god you've always wanted to be.
• Rob The Zombie Latex Mask - he's not dead actually, but you wouldn't be able to tell from this mask!

and just combine one of these costume with a little Halloween make up:

• Fake blood  - approved by 4 out of 5 dead guys.  Use liberally.

• Ghostly Makeup - achieve that ghastly pale that is all the rage this season

• Scar Putty  - make gruesome wounds and injuries

And there you are. Instant Dead Rock Star.

Dead Rock Star Halloween Party Favors

Since rocking out is hard work, provide your guests with cold frosty brew with personalized beer bottle labels. The sweaty stars will thank you, and the bottles make a great party favor, so order extra. You should place them in a skeleton cooler to keep them cold, plus it matches the Dead Rock Star theme, bonus!
