Roaring Twenties Birthday Party

A Roaring 1920s Theme Party

Swing Music, bootleg liquor, gambling, gangsters and flapper girls.  Sounds like a great party to me!  Make your next birthday party a 1920s party and your guests will have a "roaring" good time!

Roaring Twenties Birthday Invitations

Send out a personalized Roaring 20s invitation and invite your guests to dress in their finest 20s costumes.  The guys can dress as gangsters and the girls, flappers!  Take a look at our great selection of 20s theme costumes!

Or spice up your invitation a bit and send a box of candy cigarettes with your invitations.  Just mail them with your invitation in a padded envelope.  Or, put your invitation on an empty liquor bottle and hand deliver them to people.  Invite them to your speakeasy and be sure to include a secret password so they can get into the speakeasy!

Another option for a special birthday is a one of a kind caricature invitation.  Have the birthday boy or girl dressed as a gangster or a flapper, standing in a 1920s speakeasy, inviting everyone to have a "roaring" good time.

Roaring Twenties Birthday Decorations and Party Supplies

Welcome your guests with a lifesize gangster cutout or flapper cutout with the face of the guest of honor added, standing at the door.  Include a speech bubble having them asking for the password to enter the party.

If you're having seating, then you can get your party started off right and dress your guests when they take their seating cards!  Hang half of the seating cards on feather boas and the rest off feather headbands or gangster hats. If you're not having seating, you can have these items out on a table at the entrance to the party or put them on the tables for your guests to take when they sit down.  They'll wear them all night long!

To give the welcome and bar areas an authentic 1920s speakeasy feel, cover the walls with brick wall scene setters.  These plastic scenes are easily hung on walls to add to the feel of the party.  Add a few jazz trio cutouts to the area.  Better yet, have a few lifesize jazz musician cutouts around the room. Their faces can be the hosts or other special guests attending the party!
 

Your bar should, of course, be a 1920s Speakeasy. You should name the Speakeasy for the party celebrant (Sammy's Speakeasy) or even after the location where you're having the party (Watermark Speakeasy).  Serve drinks in fun light up martini glasses, light up champagne glasses, or light up mugs.

Decorate your bar or a central area of the party with old wood crates filled with paper shreds.  Have bottles of liquor peaking out from the paper and put labels on the boxes with the name of your speakeasy.  These bottles of liquor are fun personalized favors for your party as well. 

Make sure to offer your guests chocolate cigars and candy cigarettes.  You (or a model that you hire!) can walk around with a serving tray around your neck passing these out to guests.  Everyone will love it!

If this is a larger party and your bar is located in your cocktail area, then think about hiring a jazz trio for the area... It's VERY 1920s.

Roaring Twenties Birthday Centerpieces and Table Decorations

Set your birthday party table with beautiful art deco decorations. Linens should be shades of silver with black accents. Wrap napkins with strands of pearls for an extra special touch.  If you choose to use paper goods instead of linen, stick with reds and blacks for your color scheme.  Or choose a casino theme for your paper goods if you're having a casino at your party.  We know paper goods are easy on your budget and easy for clean up! 

At our 1920s party, we had great centerpieces made from tall glass vases with battery operated lamps with small crystals hanging at the top.  We filled the vases with water and to top off the 20s feel, had goldfish swimming in the water  Next to the tall vases, we had small round bowls with red roses floating in water. 

Instead of candles, opt for personalized mini tabletop lanterns with a photo of the birthday boy or girl on all four sides.  The all come with LED candles and look great surrounding a centerpiece.  For candy, plate chocolates in fancy glass candy bowls.  We made our own using low glass candle holders topped with a glass candle dish, both found at a local candle store. 

On each table, or at each place, have a personalized camera.  Your guests can take pictures throughout the night and either keep the cameras as a party favor or leave them for you to develop.  Either way you'll get great candid pictures from your evening.

Roaring 20s Activities

A casino is perfect for your 20s party.  Either hire a local event company to bring in tables, or set up your own tables.  Whether you hire a company or use your own tables, you'll certainly want to at least hire some dealers to help run the games.  Use personalized money with the guest of honor's face! Hang an assortment of casino signs throughout the casino area.

You may want to have a few different prizes available for your guests to win throughout the evening at your casino.  They certainly don't need to be too fancy - maybe a bottle of wine or a gift card to a local coffee shop.

Along with your casino, be sure to have plenty of dancing - swing dancing!  There are plenty of CDs available with swing music or hire a DJ who would certainly be able to lead the group in a few different swing dances.  You could even hire someone to teach everyone a few swing moves and then have a dance contest for your guests.  Make sure you have a camera on hand if you're having a dance contest!

Roaring 20s Theme Birthday Party Favors

There are great fun gifts that can be passed out to your guests during your party.  Again, you can offer each guest a bottle of wine (or liquor) with a birthday theme personalized bottle label or a casino theme personalized bottle label.  There are also beer and water bottle labels that make a nice favor for your 20s party. 

How about a personalized photo cookie or a personalized mint and candy tin with a picture of the birthday boy or girl?  Both are yummy and memorable party favors!

No matter what you choose, your guests are sure to have a night to remember at your 20s theme birthday party.
