RESOLUTIONS FOR THE WEAK
Cleveland, OH – It’s that time of year to make New Year's resolutions
and set ourselves up to fail, again. What does that say about the human
condition? Plenty. Yet, year in and year out, we continue this folly even
though we know it is, at best, irrational, preposterous and absurd.
Talk about making New Year's resolutions and taking them to an all new low,
Party411.com, an online event planning service and publisher, presents a list
of resolutions that, although a bit foolish and inane, are easily sustained.
New Year's Eve party guests who choose to take this feeble minded approach
will appreciate this list of resolutions that have nothing to do with smoking
("no more carrying a concealed lighter"), eating ("I’m going
to eat more tofu") or saving money ("no more valet parking for
me!"), but make them better guests.
Is there anything more?
- If a box of chocolates is put out on the dessert buffet, I resolve that
I won’t turn them over and crack them open (even just a little bit) to
see what’s inside and then put them back in the box because I hate
liquid cherry.
- I resolve that I won't double dip—if I put a carrot in the spinach dip
and then in my mouth, I won’t put it back in the spinach dip for another
go-round.
- I resolve to finish my drink and not put it down, forget where it is and
go get another one. And if I do, I won’t wonder why my host is out of
Absolut at 10 p.m.
- I resolve not to put my dirty plate down anywhere that it could be
deemed unappetizing (like on the buffet), and I especially promise not to
put those little toothpicks back on the cheese tray after I use them.
- If I smoke, I resolve to not put ashes in anything but an ashtray. I won’t
use a glass or a coffee cup, I won’t flick ashes into the potted plant
next to the recliner nor will I put my half-smoked cigarette in the
garbage (unless I run the butt under water first and get ashes all over
the sink…then again, I resolve not to do that, either).
