Funky Holidays for April
(Sneak a Peek at May)
April showers bring May flowers and all of that. Winter is behind us,
hopefully, and it's time to celebrate Spring. Tulips, green grass, nature and a
blow-out the size of Texas--right? Thanks to Chase's
Calendar of Events, there are so many things in April to celebrate, I can
hardly contain myself. Like it's...
- Holy Humor Month
- National Humor Month (a bit more mirthful than the above)
- International Twit Award Month
- Fresh Florida Tomato Month
- National Knuckles Down Month
- and, on a very serious note...National Child Abuse Prevention Month. So,
please support this cause in your area, thanks! You may even want to host a
benefit. We'll help with all the advice you need.
April 1
April Fools Day - The day my father got married? Yep. The day when
you can make people look foolish and get away with it. Why not have a
"gullible" party and let everyone come with stories and have your
friends decide what's true and what's not. Could be fun.
Boomer Bonus Day - Oh, I like the person who came up with this. A
day for all baby-boomers to celebrate without saying how old they are, when
they were born or having to admit they are old and gray.
Sorry Charlie Day - I know you won't believe this, but this day is
in honor of Charlie the Tuna because tuna commercials have been rejecting him
for 35 years. I swear.
April 2
Casanova's Birthday - He was something, wasn't he? He stands for
18th century life and he was proud of it! Know a Casanova? Invite him over and
celebrate.
Premiere of Dallas - One of television's best evening
soaps. On this day in 1978.
April 7
No Housework Day - For those of you who care. I haven't done
housework, ever.
World Health Day - Order a planning kit on Healthy Aging and invite
your friends over for an educational party. For information, www.aawhworldhealth.org.
April 10
Do Your Taxes Day (I came up with this one myself) - If you haven't,
you better. Then celebrate tomorrow (at Midnight) with a tailgate party at the
post office (see Party411.com holidays for
some ideas).
World Cow Chip Throwing Championship Contest - In case you're
looking for anything to do to put off doing your taxes, this is it. It's in
Beaver, Oklahoma but it sounds like great fun, no? Better than a 10-key adding
machine competition! They even have a special event for politicians who are
known to be highly practiced in throwing, um, let's leave it at that.
April 11
Celebrate National Karaoke Week - Increase your friends' confidence,
self-esteem and stage presence with what was thought to be a fad. It also
releases stress according to Chase's Calendar of Events, which I think
they found out from karaokeu@hawaii.rr.com.
April 15
Income Tax Pay Day - Oh dear.
Terrible Thursday.
Sinking of the Titanic Anniversary - Time to rent that video, bring
out the Kleenex and have friends over to share the wonder of this film that
takes you back to 1912.
April 16
Charlie Chaplin's Birthday He was born in 1889. And he was definitely talented. A great excuse to rent
his silent films and have friends over for popcorn and candy.
April 21
Queen Elizabeth's Birthday - She's 74. Have a Queen for a Day party.
Beginning of National
Administrative Professionals
Day - Created in 1952 through the work of Harry F. Klemfuss. Klemfuss
recognized the importance and value of the position to a company or
business. His goal was to encourage more women to become secretaries.
April 22
Babe Ruth's Pitching Debut - It was on this day in 1914 that Babe Ruth
first pitched professionally. Party411.com has some
great baseball theme parties. Check it out.
Earth Day - Check out the
activities in your area. Or host your own
Earth Day celebration!
April 23
Anniversary of the First Movie Theater - In 1896 in New York City.
April 24
National Puppetry Day - Take your kids or yourselves to a puppet
show. Or have one at your house for family and friends.
April 29
The Anniversary of the Zipper - It was on this day in 1913 that the
zipper was patented by Gideon Sundbach. Go Gideon.
April 30
National Arbor Day - Save the trees! For information, contact the
Committee for National Arbor Day at 1-888-448-7337
Walpurgis Night - May Day eve or the feast day of St. Walpurgis
("the protectress of magic arts").
National Honesty Day - Great time to have a truth or dare party or
total honesty party and find out everything you wanted to know about your
close friends!
