-
Give everyone a pumpkin
to carve and the appropriate tools. You may want to have the kids work with
adults, so they don’t hurt themselves or give them markers.
-
Then have a contest.
Have your guests or neighbors vote on the most creative face, most handsome,
scariest, worst, best, etc.
Decorate Pumpkin Cookies

Icing
-
Sprinkles

Candy

other Halloween shaped cookies.
-

cookies!
Scavenger Hunt
This is a game that is usually relatively inexpensive and time-consuming.
Ingredients
To Play
-
Cut out pumpkins on the
orange paper and write out the scavenger hunt clues.
-
Divide guests into
teams.
-
Give the partygoers
clues that take them from place to place. Here are some Halloween ideas to
get you started.
-
Go to the place where
the slogan is 'Make it a _______ night' and get a scary movie with a title
that will make you _________ (yell really loud).
-
(Go to Blockbuster and
get the movie Scream 1,2, or 3.).
-
Get a piece of a costume
from someone who is dressed to help save lives
-
(Get a piece of a
costume from a Dr., police, fireman, etc.).
-
Find something that
might purr (or a picture).
-
(Picture of a cat, piece
of a cat costume, etc.)
-
Obtain a CD from a group
whose name will make you want to "Bust Jack O' Lanterns.” (Smashing Pumpkins
CD/tape).
-
Find anything related to
"The Great Pumpkin." (Anything related to the classic Charlie Brown
Halloween special/comic strip that deals with "The Great Pumpkin").
-
The team that finishes
first and gets all of the right answers, wins.
Mummy Wrap
Ingredients
To Play
-
Divide kids into teams
or couples.
-
Hand out toilet paper to
each team.
-
Have each team try to
mummify (wrap up) one another in a race to be first! Be careful- the paper
keeps tearing the faster you go!
Tie
an Orange Ribbon
This game is a great way to
start your party.
Ingredients
-
Orange or Black Yarn
-
Scissors
To Play
-
Buy some yarn or ribbon,
and cut the ribbon/yarn up into various lengths (at least 100-400 uneven
pieces).
-
Hide the yarn or ribbon
around the house.
-
Put everyone into pairs,
and have them search throughout the house to find as many pieces of
ribbon/yarn as they possibly can.
-
Each team must work with
their partner to tie each piece of ribbon/yarn together to create one long
piece of yarn/ribbon. Whoever has the longest piece of ribbon/yarn at the
end of 15 minutes wins the game (It is OK if not every piece of ribbon is
found).
Halloween
Sticker Stalker
Ingredients
To Play
-
When guests begin to
arrive at your house, give each guest a pack/sheet of 10 Halloween stickers.
-
The object of this game
is to get rid of all your stickers by sticking them on the other guests (One
sticker per guest). However, if the guest you are "stickering" catches you,
he/she gets to stick one of his/her stickers on you. If you are "caught",
you must temporarily take your sticker back, and you can try to sticker that
same person later (at your own risk). But if someone falsely accuses you of
"stickering" him/her, then you can automatically put one of your stickers on
that person.
-
The first one to get rid
of all 10 of their original stickers is the winner!
Touchy Feely
Ingredients
-
Spiders
-
Webs
-
Wigs
-
Witches Noses
-
Pumpkins
-
Fake Brains
-
Basket or Box
To Play
-
Put a lot of random
Halloween objects in a basket or a box. Make sure the box/basket has some
type of cover over it.
-
As your guests arrive,
have them put their hand inside the basket/box and feel around for the
various objects associated with Halloween.
-
As soon as each person
feels around the box, have them write down what they thought was in the box.
-
Whoever guesses the most
items correctly wins a prize.
Body Part
This game is fun to play at
a "scary" sleepover, and can be accompanied by other ghost stories.
Ingredients
-
Paper Bag
-
Plastic Bag
-
Peeled Grapes
-
Canned Apricots
-
Popcorn Kernels
-
Cooked Spaghetti
-
Peeled Tomato
-
Cooked Macaroni Noodles
-
Jell-O
To Play
-
Prepare all of the “body
parts” and line the paper bags with a plastic bag. Each bag will be a
different body part that has fallen off the witch. Use peeled grapes for the
eyeballs, a canned apricot for the tongue, popcorn kernels for teeth, cooked
spaghetti for brain, a large peeled tomato for the heart, cooked macaroni
noodles for intestines, a slab of jello for the liver, and so on.
-
Have the guests sit in a
circle in a dimly lit (or dark) room while you make up a story about a mean
old witch who falls apart piece by piece.
-
As you talk about each
body part, pass around the bag and have the kids feel inside without
looking. Have the guests guess what food you used for each body part, and
the person who guesses the most right wins.
Scary
Story Contest
Ingredients
To Play
-
Write out on individual
index cards one scary story opening line. Good examples include: “It was a
stormy night…” “The ghost moaned…” “A body lay in the corner…” “The mummy
chased her…”
-
Gather guests in a
circle and make it really dark and light some candles.
-
Hand out an index card
to each guest.
-
The first person reads
their opening line and has one minute to make up a scary story.
-
You go around the circle
until all stories have been read.
-
The story that gets the
most shrieks and shrills, wins.
