according to Pop Music Charts Archive (PMCA)

The Number One song of 1961 was recorded by Bobby Lewis. The title of this all night favorite is?

Patsy Cline's ballad "I Fall to Pieces" came in at Number Two.
The Number Three hit was "Michael" as in "Michael row your boat ashore..." What was the name of the group?

Roy Orbison's "Crying" came in at Number Four.
Del Shannon had two big hits in 1961. "Hat's Off to Larry" made it as far as the fifth most played song in July. His other runaway hit single was Number Five for the year. Name that song.

The sixth place song for 1961 was "My True Story" by The Jive Five.

Chubby Checker had the Number Seven, Number Seventy and Number Ninety-Four songs of 1961. Name any of them!

The String-A-Longs recorded the eighth place song "Wheels."

Number Nine was "Raindrops." The singer was no relation to the man who helped bring Rock 'n Roll to our TV sets.

And, Number Ten for 1961 was "Wooden Heart" by Joe Dowell.

More 1961 Pop Music Trivia

Elvis Presley had four hit songs in 1961. They ended the year at numbers Thirty-Nine, Fifty-One, Seventy-One and Ninety-Six. "Are You Lonesome To-night" -- leftover from 1960 -- came in at 96.
The Question: Was the most popular of his other three hits "Surrender," "(Marie's the Name) His Latest Flame," or "Little Sister?"

Instrumental Music was popular in 1961. Instructions: Match the song with the musicians:
Song Artist
On the Rebound Ferrante and Teicher
Calcutta Burt Keampfert
Wonderland by Night Lawrence Welk
Exodus Floyd Cramer

Two of 1961's top 100 songs that lived on long beyond the 'Sixties were recorded by Ben E. King. Neither made number one song, but you probably know the words to both of them.
The Question: Name the songs? ("Stand by Me" and "Spanish Harlem" )

Song titles taken out of context sound strange. After all, who would have thought a song entitled "Who Put the Bomp (in the Bomp, Bomp, Bomp)?" would be a hit!
The Question: Who recorded that song? (Barry Mann)
