Amy asked:
Occasion: BACHELORETTE PARTY
THE MAID OF HONOR IN THE WEDDING THAT I AM IN WANTS TO FOLLOW WHAT SHE WANTS
TO DO WITH NO INPUT FROM THE REST OF THE PARTY, SHE KNOWS CERTAIN BANDS AND
SHE WANTS TO GO WHERE EVER THAT BAND IS THAT NIGHT. HOWEVER I KNOW PLACES THAT
ARE CLOSER AND ARE MORE BACHELORETTE PARTY ORIENTED THAN OTHERS HOW DO WE GET
HER TO LOOK AT OTHER OPTIONS?
The Party Girl's advice is:
Talk to the bride-to-be and see if she
can help. This party should be agreeable for all.
Crystal asked:
Occasion: misc.
I have a guy who I really like and he says I look good and that he likes me
but that he don't know if he wants to go out with me! I guess you could say
that we are talking. Should I buy him a valentine gift and if so what should I
get if I am willing to pay 10.00-35.00? Also I don't know if I should ask him
out or just drop it and let him think about it? Please help me I have been
worrying about what I am going to do for the past two weeks.
The Party Girl's advice is:
Stop right there, if he doesn't want to
go out with you, why would you make yourself vulnerable by getting him a gift.
While I am all for women being equal, I don't believe in making a fool of
myself. Get him a funny valentine if you want to and may a small piece of
chocolate but that's all. Let him make the first move. Works! If he doesn't do
anything, you won't feel as bad.

The Party Girl's advice is:
If he doesn't know if you should go
out, you shouldn't be buying him a present. Find a funny valentine and give it
to him with maybe a bag of those cute candy hearts or a small chocolate item.
While I am a fan of women being somewhat assertive, the other party must show
some interest.
April asked:
Occasion: College dorm floor gathering
What would be a good theme idea for my college dorm floor's gathering? It
would have to be something both boys and girls would want to attend. I was
thinking of s'mores, but I don't know how to relate that to anything.
The Party Girl's advice is:
Tell everyone in advance to bring
something that they would like "some more" of, such as a certain
musician, a favorite food, a good movie, etc. Have prizes for the most
creative, the prettiest, the funniest, etc. Make s'mores with the golden
graham recipe. If you can't find it, write back and I'll send it to you. Serve
with hot chocolate and/or cider.
Jenn asked:
Occasion: Anniv.
My boyfriend and I are coming up on our 6 month anniv. and I would like to
give him something different-- I have known him for over 3 years and ever
since we have been together we have done numerous romantic things such as
poems, surprises, and getaways. Can you help suggest something I can buy him
for this occ.
The Party Girl's advice is:
Find a good private place, spread out a
blanket, light candles, east chocolate covered strawberries and great cheese
and crackers and have a beverage. Play your favorite songs.
Jennifer asked:
Occasion: Post Prom Activities
On June 22, I'll be having my senior prom and no one can agree on what to do
afterwards. Can you suggest anything?
The Party Girl's advice is:
Lots of choices: after prom, casual
party at someone's home with a pool, party at someone's home with a great game
room, bowling party (make arrangements ahead of time, treasure or scavenger
hunt games (see gamegirl site), progressive party (going from one home to
another for different activities.
Chels asked:
Occasion: valentines dance
ok, this boy asked me to go with him to the dance, should I get him a boutonnière? he already told my friends he had no money to get me
anything, so should I just not give him one??
The Party Girl's advice is:
I wouldn't give him anything. If you
do, you could embarrass him. Just a nice smile and a thank you.
Sue asked:
Occasion: Quit smoking
I need some ideas!!! We have congrat signs, no smoking signs, and ashtrays
filled with candy. Any ideas?
The Party Girl's advice is:
Get cute stickers to pass out as
"anti-smoking" patches. Make her a "BIG" ribbon or medal
and pin it on to wear for the while party. Put together a basket of fruit and
vegetables so that she doesn't put on weight.
Whitney asked:
Occasion: Kids Party for no reason
What music should I play?¿* Backstreet Boys* Shania Twain
The Party Girl's advice is:
I say play both, why choose one over
the other.
Cayla asked:
Occasion: school project
What kind of food should we have at the beach?
The Party Girl's advice is:
One of my favorite types of party. Get
a watermelon and cut in half and scoop out and fill with fresh fruit. Get
those banana chips as snacks. Make kabobs with chicken, pineapple, kiwi, and
red pepper. Marinate and grill. Rice works well and you could put slivered
almonds and mandarin oranges in it. Have do-it-yourself sundaes for dessert.
Get those little umbrellas and put them in the punch drinks. A good punch is
OJ, Ginger ale or club soda, cranberry juice with a frozen ring mold of OJ with
strawberries in it. Try lots of fruits such as papaya, guava, etc. You could
even have a game called "Guess the Fruit"
Angel asked:
Occasion: just a party
How do you plan a party
The Party Girl's advice is:
There are many things to consider. 1.
Guest list 2. budget 3. theme if any 4. food 5. decorations 6. games, music,
entertainment Start with the guest list and budget. That will tell you what
you have to work with. Then look at the theme page and see if any of the ideas
strike you. If you are still stuck, write back.
Paige asked:
Occasion: Valentines Party
My husband and I are on the Valentine's Committee at church to come up with a
Theme for the party. Last year's was the LOVE BOAT. Since, we have never done
this before we are at a loss for a idea. PLEASE HELP!!!
The Party Girl's advice is:
Here's one theme idea from the
Valentine section of the theme page under special occasions: You can use all
or part of this or change anything. Try one of the others from this section.
Of course, it should be hearts. Use this pattern, or one similar, from
CONTEMPO (includes napkins, cups, plates, invitations, table covers and more
plus treat bags)! And it's so festive. * Activities: As each person arrives,
give them a "page" of candy heart stickers with those oh-so-clever
phrases (if that doesn't bring back memories, what does?). They can wear them,
give them to other people as an ice breaker or take them home. Whatever. As
well, set up a table where people can make there own Valentine's Day
"mailbox" using the Valentine Craft Kit from Oriental Trading Co.
All you need supply are some boxes (available at any Mail Box USA or similar
establishment), or use shoeboxes...we all have plenty of those. Give a prize
for the most creative Valentine's Day "mailbox!" * Treat bags: This
always causes people undue anxiety; they never know what to fill them with. No
problem, treat bags are great fun. For example, also from Oriental Trading
Co., choose from 5" plastic Valentine Pez dispensers complete with candy,
9" nylon Valentine slap bracelets with hearts, metallic twist Valentine
shoelaces in white with teenie red hearts, 1" conversation heart erasers,
3" plastic heart containers that you can fill with candy, and more. Put
one bag at each seat, tied off with red and black curling ribbon, give them
out as people leave to thank them for coming or use them as
"prizes." If, however, you are making "mailboxes," include
inexpensive Valentines so that people can fill them out and deposit them in
other guests' "mailboxes" after the boxes are on display! *
Centerpieces: What better than these tins filled with popcorn, pretzels, and
peanuts. And look how they match the plates and napkins. Only $14.95 (cheap
for a centerpiece), and if you are so inclined, you can attach red Mylar heart
and lip balloons. Too cool. Put them on the tables, one on the bar and
possibly on the buffet(s). * Tables: 2" glass heart-shaped votive
candles, heart-shaped confetti (both from Oriental Trading Co.), a stadium cup
to match the theme at each place, stuffed with the napkin and with a
"bright heart honeycomb straw" coming out from the center (from
CONTEMPO). Put a plate of red foil chocolate hearts and lips on each table (at
any candy store in your neighborhood or from Kencraft at (800) 377-4368), and
Valentine Bubblegum Buddies or chocolate and mint PetitCups with hearts on
them. * Other Decorations: Heart-shaped Valentine light set, 8' long, ten
lights and/or 8' plastic red lip lights would be great on your outside railing
or over your front door. Around the bar, put 8' plastic conversation heart
lights (to match those stickers mentioned above). Fill the house with red
balloon bouquets with red curling ribbon.
Christa asked:
Occasion: dinner party
I would like to include a pasta and several sauces on a buffet for a dinner
party. How do I keep the pasta warm and not stick together? Please help!
Thanks.
The Party Girl's advice is:
I found that using my pot with the
craining insert works best. You get the steam from the bottom water and the
noodles don't stick together. If that is not possible, toss a drop or two of
oil with the drained and rinsed pasta.
Tiffany asked:
Occasion: 21st birthday
Hi I was wondering if you have any ideas of how I can have the best 21st
birthday there is. I want to have some alcohol, games, music and fun there but
I also need to figure out where to have it. Should it be at my home or
somewhere else? Can you help?
The Party Girl's advice is:
First, look at your budget. That will
be the governing factor in all of your decisions. Some places don't charge
rent, just their food. Some have a rental fee. Why not look at the theme page
and get some ideas for the theme of the party and go from there. For instance,
for a beach, luau, Hawaiian, Mexican party, you could use a hotel with an
indoor and outdoor pool (weather won't matter) and decorate and party around
that. Write again when you have some ideas of budget and theme.
Barbra asked:
Occasion: teacher's lunch
Can you give me a few ideas for a Teacher's luncheon held in Feb. sponsored by
the School's Hospitality committee? This is an annual function catered by an
Italian rest. The theme last year was an Italian Cafe (Little Italy). Help!! Thank you!!
The Party Girl's advice is:
You could use Geography as a theme.
Each table could be a different country with the flag and colors of that
country done in balloons and glitter and maybe some token of that country such
as shamrocks for Ireland, Eiffel Tower for France, etc. Write the words Thank
You in the language of the country.
tracy asked:
Occasion: decor
Hi. I am redecorating my room, I love bright colors and want it to be really
trendy and high-tech sorta cool. I need ideas on what to do. My room is a
small space but want it to be really neat. Please help me. Thanks
The Party Girl's advice is:
First of all, you need to tell me more
about you, age, colors you like, things you like, how much to spend and what's
there now.
Nancy asked:
Occasion: a winter gathering of friends ages 30-45-in my
home on a sat night
Would like to make this party really fun-invitations have already been sent,
but need help on food ideas (thought buffet would be appropriate for 30 people)
maybe a door prize?? just looking for suggestions for a fun house party.
The Party Girl's advice is:
There's a lot of ways to go. When each
person arrives attach a paper to their back with one half of a pair (i.e.
Lauren & Hardy, salt & pepper) and see how long it takes each person
to identify who or what they are and find their mate. They can't ask directly
or more than 3 questions at time. Have a booby prize for those who never
get it and there will be at least one. Divide everyone into 2 teams and play a
game of Pass-The-Orange. Provide craft materials and let people make their own
mask and award prizes. Look at the gamegirl site for more ideas.
Andrea asked:
Occasion: none
Hi my name is Andrea Rise and on February 9th 2000 I am going to be 18 years
old. I am going to a bigger town and going to hang out with my friend who is
coming along with me and my sister at college. I am going to be staying in a
motel and my sisters apartment so I was wondering if you could give me some
fun ideas that we all could do there. Thanks
The Party Girl's advice is:
Call the city's Chamber of Commerce to
see what attractions are in the city. Find out what is close to where you are
staying and get maps of the city so you won't get lost.
michelle asked:
Occasion: valentines
I have no idea what to get my boyfriend
The Party Girl's advice is:
Well, you haven't given me anything to
work with. How much do you want to spend? Ages? Does he like sports? You could
get him a chocolate item in the shape of something he loves such as a
football, heart, golf balls, etc.
Pamela asked:
Occasion: Spaghetti Lunch
The Cub Scout pack that my son is in is sponsoring a spaghetti lunch on Scout
Sunday after the noon service. Any suggestions for decorations?
The Party Girl's advice is:
Cover the table with red and white
checked paper table clothes and get red/white paper goods and silverware. For
great centerpieces, tie breadsticks with red ribbon and attach red and white
balloons to them. Sprinkle glitter around the base. Hang red and white crepe
paper in streamers. Check the craft stores for other things like this.
hello asked:

Me and a bunch of my friends are having a New Years party at my friends house.
We are inviting any one who wants to come. It is mainly for teens so they can
stay out of trouble. So if you have any ideas please let me know.
The Party Girl's advice is:
Go to the gamegirl site and look at
teen games.
Beth asked:
Occasion: Millennium Party Idea?
Ok me and my friends wanna throw a BIG party for New Years Eve....the big
problem is that there's no place to have it!! none of our parents will let us
have it at our house..all the auditoriums are booked and it seems like the
only place left would be outside! Can you tell me any idea that you have?!
PLEASE ?Signed, Beth
The Party Girl's advice is:
If there's no place to have it, there's
no party. Sorry, start planning earlier next year and you'll get it together.
Heather asked:
Occasion: New Year's Party
What are some games I can play for my age range? I'm thinking of having a
M&M Millennium Party, so do you have any ideas for that, too?
The Party Girl's advice is:
Other than having a lot of M&M
dispensers and lots of M&Ms, you might check the local Toys R Us to see if
they have any more stuff. As for games, check the gamegirl site for ideas.
Kim asked:

special and memorable to do. Please let us know ASAP!!! Thanks for your help.

Occasion: New year's Eve
Hi my name is Andrea Rise and I am 17 years old and a 11th grader in high
school. Well here's my story. My parents said they were having a new years eve
party so I would have to find a party of my own to go to so I wasn't in the
house that night. Well there is no party going on that I know of and I haven't
been invited to any so I talked my parents into letting me have about 5 people
over if when they eat dinner up stairs we are down stairs and then when there
done eating they'll go down stairs for the rest of the night and I can have
the up stairs. Can you help me plan a small little party for me and my
friends. The computer I'm working on is my mom's work so you can mail me back
soon at this address
The Party Girl's advice is:
Have you looked at the various categories
at party411.com/gamegirl? Lots of ideas there.
Barbara asked:
Occasion: Xmas party
I made fudge this am and it is cold now but still very soft., its good really
good., if you want to eat it with a spoon way to soft. Can it be re heated and
brought up to another boil or would that ruin it altogether
The Party Girl's advice is:
Why not put out small paper cups and
plastic spoons and let the guests help themselves. You can't put it back in
the oven or anything. It's as done as it's going to get.
Bridgett asked:
Occasion: Millennium Party
I am having a millennium party as you already know. I need some creative ideas
to decorate my house for it. I wanted maybe some kind of theme like a silver
theme or something. I just want something different. I also need ideas for
things to do at my party. Every time I have a party everyone just stands there
and talks. Maybe some games or something I just don't want to stand around you
know? Thanks a lot of helping me! needing help,
The Party Girl's advice is:
You got that right and they are still
coming. Look at www.oriental.com for great decorations and see if they can get
them to you in time. Otherwise, I like the silver theme so go to a party store
or a craft store. Get white balloons and blow them up and write with glue and
sprinkle on glitter. Get hats, horns, etc. As for stuff to do, look at the
gamegirl site at the teen area. Also look for a boxed mystery game or maybe
plan a scavenger hunt.
Amanda asked:
Occasion: New Year's Eve Party
I am throwing a party in a pretty small house and I would like some ideas on
how to make this night more special than any other night. We are not at the
drinking age and there is not a lot of places for us to go. We want to have a
fun night, but we are lacking creative ideas. Can you please give me some
ideas? Thank you.
The Party Girl's advice is:
Get one of those great boxed mystery
games. Have the guests dress as their favorite celebrity and let everyone
guess who they are. Blow up a picture of father time or baby new year and play
a game of pin the part. Set up a scavenger hunt in the house. Look at
www.oriental.com for great decorations and stuff. Surf the categories of
gamegirl for some other ideas.
Andrea asked:
Occasion: new year's eve
I would like to have some ideas for decorations and games to keep everyone
entertained for the last night of the year.
The Party Girl's advice is:
Have you looked at the millennium party
area on the themes page? Also the New Year's Eve area of gamegirl.
Julie asked:
Occasion: post-millennium party
Hi There: I was wondering if you could help us out.....we are looking
for a FUN & EXCITING way to celebrate a "post-millennium" party.
It is for a sorority and we have about 25 girls in our group. I like the ideas
for party favors and decorations but I am stumped on an idea for a game...any
ideas? Thanks Julie
The Party Girl's advice is:
You could do a futuristic type party like the Jetsons. Look at www.oriental.com for great decorations and favors.
Or you could have everyone come as their favorite celebrity and get one of
those boxed mystery games. Have everyone prepare something for a
"talent" show and tape it and then later show it.
Melly asked:
Occasion: New Years
We are giving a New years party at our home this year. It is a family party,
but the majority will be teenagers and college-age kids. We've been looking
around and getting some ideas for decorating, but we are worried about how
much fun the kids are going to have. Do you have any games or activity ideas
for this age group? (We have thought of many things that adults would like to
do, but we don't want to run the risk that the party will be viewed as lame or
boring for the teens) Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
The Party Girl's advice is:
Maybe a scavenger hunt or one of those
great boxed mystery games. Tape record a bunch of commercials from TV, being
sure not to record the name of the product. Space them out a bit on the tape
with some blank tape in between, then play the tape back at the party and let
them all race to guess the name of the product. You can do this with video
tape if you prefer, and play the tape back on your VCR. You can also tape
record bits of TV shows instead of commercials, for fun. or: Tape record a

Donkey, or using felt-tip pens and a large body outline of yourself, have them
do your surgery - with their EYES CLOSED! Then pass around "body
parts." Place food items, such as two peeled grapes for eyes, popcorn kernels
for teeth, an apricot half for the liver, and so on, then have
everyone feel inside paper bags and try to guess what they are really feeling,
as you identify them as body parts! How about "Dangers in the Dark!"
Cover Player 1's eyes with a blindfold. Have remaining players create an
obstacle course in the game room. When the room is booby-trapped, give each
player an index card and have them stand next to or behind an obstacle. Move
Player 1 to the starting point, and tell him or her to collect a card from
each player in the room as he moves along the obstacle course. Turn out the
lights, then tell the players to call Player 1 to come and get the index card.
Player 1 must follow their voices to find them as quickly as possible, while
being careful to avoid the obstacles in the room. Mark the time it took to
collect the cards, then let another player try a new course. The player with
the shortest time wins a prize!
cindy asked:
Occasion: New Year Eve
Party Girl, My daughter is having a low budget New Years Eve party. She
is planning on having about 20 people and a lot of fun. The thing we need help
with is decorating, party favors and games. We have already rented bounce
house so that takes care of some of it. The theme is Millennium and the colors
are Burgundy and Sliver. Please Help!
The Party Girl's advice is:
Write back with this question and tell
me the ages of the kids and whether its just girls or boys also.
Mark asked:
Occasion: 2000 New Year's Party
I am looking for ideas for a unique New Year's Eve celebration that my family
(5 adults and 8 children) will always remember. We considered a hot tub and
champagne or ginger ale but they are non available. Any ideas?
The Party Girl's advice is:
Maybe you could try some of these:
Here's a fun one, no pressure, easy to prepare and do, and can easily tie into
your angel theme. Buy or make some baker's dough - enough for everyone.
(Recipe: 4 cups flour, 1 cup salt, 1 3/4 cups water, mix and divide into 10
parts. You can color the dough with food coloring if you prefer. Make more if
needed for more players.) Give each player a section of dough and ask them to
make something that will occur in the future like a new animal or a futuristic
house. Have them set their completed projects on a long table for everyone to
admire. Then give awards for: funniest, most imaginative, silliest, best use of
play doe, etc! Why not have a talent show. Tell people to prepare something
for the party and then video tape it and show it to the guests. Everyone must
participate to really make it fun. Start off with a blown up picture of Father
Time and play a game of Pin the beard. Set up a Treasure Hunt in one of the
houses and cute poems as clues. Get one of those great box mystery games and
everyone be a character.
Kim asked:
Occasion: millennium
I have just been elected by my husband and sisters, to throw a Millennium party. We all live 3 hours from each other (me and sisters), we want to be
together for the new year, ( we are very close). Their boyfriends will be here
too, and maybe a few misc. friends, total people approx. 10-15, small and
quaint, but I want something that they will always remember as being the first
day of the New Millennium. I'm not rich, but would like to find some
great party favors, recipes (food & drink) that will be unusual and not
just another family get together of partying. Can you help? Thank
you,
The Party Girl's advice is:
Why not have a grownup pajama party.
Have everyone wear funny or colorful PJs and bring blankets and pillows. Tell
them to prepare something for a "talent" show and video it and then
show it back. Get one of those great boxed mystery games. As for food, you
could cut veggies and have dip, cheese and crackers, tuna/chicken/egg salad
and bread, fruit, pizza, pasta with different sauces, cupcakes, do-it-yourself
sundaes, just about anything.
